- MikeGlossop, United Kingdom1,462 contributionsVery peaceful spotPleasant walled garden with an odd little self service bothy cafe and shop. You can either leave cash in a honesty box or type in and pay via contactless. Good selection of tea, coffee and freshly made cake. The cafe is in a lovely sheltered location with views across the garden.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 October 2023
- TheBurtfamilyNorth Leigh, United Kingdom443 contributionsGreat visit to snowdropsVisited yesterday to see snowdrops. Most enjoyable visit overall. Not a mass carpet of flowers but the overall feeling of the gardens was lovely. Loved the self service / hosesty box approach at shop and cafeVisited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 February 2024
- HildrhedgeHereford, United Kingdom82 contributionsJust Wonderful! What a fabulous garden - we are so glad we found you! Of course, at this time of year, the snowdrops were stunning and it was very exciting to find so many named varieties for sale (more than Painswick!) We also appreciated the naming of the varieties in the ground - I wish more gardens would do this. Everyone was so friendly and eager to answer questions; the four gardeners we met and both owners were only too willing to pass on tips and interesting information. The tea room in the bothy is outstanding: the building has been beautifully renovated and the cakes are home-made and exceedingly generous. The whole experience was a delight! Thank you so much for all your hard work and generosity.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 February 2024

- CaliforniaExpatSan Diego, California20 contributions100% LovelyMagical. We were staying nearby, but would definitely recommend making the trip to come here. Refreshingly affordable entry cost (£6 for adults, £1 for kids, and in an honesty box, to boot) and the self-serve cake was as good as the other reviews say. Very charming and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 April 2024
- Pauline2652Dorchester, United Kingdom148 contributionsGreat valueWe were looking for something to do on a dry but not very warm day. Saw these and thought we would have a look. So glad we did. They were beautiful relaxing gardens and the tulips were wonderful on the day we visited. Honesty box at the gate for small entrance fee.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 April 2024
- purpletravelatNottinghamshire, United Kingdom552 contributionsExcellent GardensEasy to get to by bus from Cheltenham or Cirencester. A short 5 to 10 minutes uphill walk from the bus stop. At least it is downhill on the way back. Plenty of free parking if you drive. Well stocked and well cared for gardens with a large variety of plants. Not a large garden but plenty to see and easy to spend a couple of hours The honesty box at the entrance allows payment by cards, cash or PayPal. The tea room also allows honesty payments by cash, card or PayPal. Could not believe the choice and low prices. Great to chat to the gardeners. Well worth a visitVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 June 2024
- Jane WSouthampton, United Kingdom21 contributionsA country garden to be explored no matter what age you are. What a fabulous garden. We chose to stop here for a break driving from Worcester to Southampton, best plan ever. The gardens are well laid out and colourful borders enhance the gardens. Giant snail spotting was fun too. The bothy tearoom was amazing with plenty of seating in and out and beautifully decorated with a rural theme. Just love it and would love to visit in the spring and autumn. Highly recommend. 48 acres of country gardens.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 June 2024
- markKingham, United Kingdom5 contributionsLovely welcoming beautiful peaceful gardenLovely welcoming beautiful peaceful garden. This is one of the most friendly gardens we have visited. There is a trust box on arrival with clear easy instructions. We visited late afternoon and had the gardens to ourselves! There are benches around to sit and enjoy the vistas. Then there is the refreshments area with extensive outdoor and indoor seating & tables. There is hot water on tap to make hot drinks in nice china. There was a range of delicious cakes, everything at very reasonable prices. You are also welcome to bring your own picnics. Thank you to everyone involved for making this a great place to spend some time on our 42nd wedding anniversary!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 July 2024
- ChrisS426 contributionsPeaceful magical hidden gardenBeautiful romantic English garden. Very peaceful with lovely home made tea and cakes via an honesty box as is the admission. The garden has some very unusual plants as well as a very informative apothecary garden. It has has a heritage vegetable garden and sells surplus produce normally on Wednesdays. It is not pristine perfect but this is what creates the magical mix of an English garden. Many thanks to the owners who have managed to make this all so specialVisited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 July 2024

Beautiful place, so quiet and relaxing wandering around the gardens. Lovely tea room, The Bothy, where you are invited to make your own tea and choose your cake and leave the money in a tin/honesty box. Same method used to pay to enter the gardens - you're invited to pay via paypal, Ditto buying plants. The Victorian gardens are set out well and full of colour, with a separate herb garden area. We were very lucky with the weather.

Wonderful and peaceful gardens. Very well maintained and planted walled garden which is the heart of the grounds. Mixture of herbaceous borders, vegetable and fruit. Mellow brick walls warm in the afternoon sun with roses and espalier fruit growing across. Potting shed and bothy sensitively repurposed for visitor comfort. Choice of sunny and shady garden terraces for lingering over tea and delicious home made cake. Wider parkland affords woodland walks and views of surrounding Cotswold valley.

Pretty and peaceful on a summer afternoon, away from the August crowds. An interesting garden because it is mixed: fruit, vegetables, flowers - and a fascinating, old-fashioned herbal garden complete with plenty of information on all the homeopathic remedies different herbs were used for. I loved this area. The gardens are situated in a valley and can be viewed from above in a little gazebo, or from the excellent self-service tearoom with an honesty box. You make your own tea or coffee in the kitchen, and choose your wedge of homemade cake from a delicious selection inside. The lemon drizzle cake is definitely recommended: fresh, moist and brimming with lemon zest and juice. Yummy!

This was our second visit to these wonderful gardens. A large grassy car park and you pay your entrance fee of £5 to an honesty box hut where you can get a very helpful map. What can you not like about these gardens - peaceful and relaxing, well maintained lovely colourful borders, nice roses and a herb garden at the top.
The walled gardens are in a sort of bowl and there are numerous seats to sit on and admire the truly lovely views - I could spend all afternoon here. These gardens are not large but the facilities are fantastic. It is self serve in the refreshment area and again an honesty box - some lovely cakes and the outside seating area would put much larger gardens to shame. Good toilet. There are plants for sale and also a little shop. Whilst here it is worth having a quick look where the chapel used to be.
Some gardens fade from the memory quite quickly but Cerney is not one of them. Definitely one of my favourite gardens in the Cotswolds or indeed anywhere in the UK. A must visit if you are in the area.

Beautiful peaceful day. Delicious cake and I understand goats cheese, if available, is not to be missed. Entrance and purchases, all very reasonably priced are managed by honesty box system, what a refreshing change. Snowdrops were beautiful and there will be much more to enjoy through the seasons we are sure. We purchased a friends card and will be frequent visitors over the next 12 months. Thankyou, Gale and Jeff, Swindon.

We are going to be nearby next week ,Sept 20 th, is there much colour in the gardens or has it gone over ?
Also can we bring a small packed lunch to have in the gardens?
Many thanks.

Hello, we were at Cerney House gardens on 24th August. To be honest there wasn't an awful lot of colour. Some individual flowers were colourful but the overall look wasn't colourful. With regard to the picnic, they class the car parking area as the picnic area too, having said that we did see people eating their own food in the garden.
Hope this helps.

I use a four wheeled walker. How acccessible is the garden?
Written 26 May 2019
It's not impossible.
But areas will be tricky.
Best check with the owners website.

We're visiting the area this August and would love to tour a quiet garden that isn't too formal and over-manicured (I've seen plenty of those around the world). Am I totally off-base in thinking that the slightly overgrown and hidden nature of the Cerney gardens (as described in the reviews) actually sounds really charming and lovely? Or do these gardens veer more towards dilapidated and unattractive?
I hope that question makes sense...thanks for any feedback!
Written 23 January 2016
Hi,
I work part time at Cerney Gardens and believe they would suit your needs perfectly. The Gardens are extremely quiet and not at all formal. This is a family run garden and does not operate in the same way as those run by large organisations. The Gardens are not overrun with visitors and you may even find, you have the whole garden to yourselves to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity.
There is a large walled garden that contains vegetable plots, flower borders, a knot garden and a large greenhouse. You can purchase a cup of tea/coffee from the Bothy along with slices of homemade cake. Paths through the woodland lead down to the front of the house. Here you can amble between the flower borders and appreciate the stunning spectacle of the house within the grounds.
The Gardens are most certainly not dilapidated and unattractive
This really is a charming and lovely place to spend a couple of hours.
I hope this helps with your decision and that you will visit us in August.
