Called in recently to visit this old attractive inn. Decided to go into the Bar as the outside area was quite busy. Completely ignored by barman (we were sitting about 6 feet away from him) who was determined to not make eye contact. Also ignored by other staff who just walked past us with their heads down; I think one... More

Thank you for your review. We can only apologise for what seems a simple misunderstanding. We note you were "sitting" in the bar. The bar is not waiter served, except for when food is brought to customers in the bar or on the patios. We are a busy hotel with 31 rooms, two private lounges as well as the bar,... More

2nd pub on our walk-about. Set in a beautiful road - cobbled - a pub with such character that its hard to imagine it NOT having a ghost and smugglers associated with it. There IS A GHOST and smugglers did use it. We sat in a quiet cool room for residents and read the papers. The place just oozes atmosphere... More

Was there just for drinks, sat outside, although Hotel does look fantatstic! - maybe another trip to Rye is needed? Really enjoyed ourselves, and enjoyed out bottle of Champagne, however white metal painted tables were filthy, they could do with a real good jet wash, and judging by the food leftovers strewn on other tables, the table clearing service was... Well worth a visit to the Giants Fireplace. A pub in the Mermaid Inn in Rye. In the winter months a beautiful log fire burns and you can take the chill out your bones and enjoy a drink or more. You can order a pub meal or dine in the restaurant. Well worth a visit.

Stop for a pint at The Mermaid Inn and cosy up by the ridiculously big, roaring fire. The bar area oozes character. Definitely worth a visit in the winter months.

It's impressive, terrifically comfy and inviting on a cold day and full of nooks and curiosities. Not to miss if visiting the beautiful Rye.

A quick drink in this historic building just great and an honour to be able to relax. Will be returning to dine as the food looked stunning.

We went here as it is advertised as dog friendly and we were met with a very curt rebuff. Lovely old building and a great location but that doesn't make up for unfriendliness. We got talking in the garden to some customers having a cigarette break and came away with the impression that the staff may have taken against my... More
