Visited the house and garden but not very impressed. Only 3 rooms are open to the public and the garden - while quite large - is not very nice. There is a line between tumble down old fashioned and simply neglected and tatty which this...More

Visited one afternoon - goodness not much to see of the house! Two rooms downstairs are open to the public - they apparently rent out all other areas to a tenant. If you paid the entry fee to see the house you would be very...More

Quite a small site to go round. Really nice views from the top but you need a nice clear day to get the most of the view that you can see from the pictures. Not a far walk down to the sea which is good.

Hidden away at the end of West Street in the centre of Rye, this is another of the National Trust's tenanted houses, which means only a few rooms to explore. Although the house guides were very informative, it's the garden which stands out as the...More

Felt it was poor value for money as there are only 3 available to see and no public toilet facilities.

There's little to see: only three small rooms and the garden. It's worth it only if you're a big Henry James/EF Benson/Mapp and Lucia fan. If you're in Rye - a delightful village/town - then go if you're an NT member otherwise it's not really...More

This hidden gem is not obvious from the outside. As a National Trust member & long term former resident of Rye, I had never before visited this place. However it's well worth taking the time. The garden is really lovely, & must be very warm...More

Found this by accident on one of our days out in East Sussex. Beautiful town house with some very interesting history. Home to a great many visitors over the years including Rudyard Kipling and H.G Wells and it was the house seen in the Mapp...More

I didn't see any dogs there. I suspect they aren't permitted (other than support animals) because you have to go through the house to get to the garden.
