In the world of opera, Glyndebourne is unique. Recognised globally as one of the great opera houses, it has a long history based around the Christie family. Set in the heart of the Sussex countryside, Glyndebourne offers a uniquely British experience set in the grounds of a wonderful country house. The summer Festival runs from May to August. The autumn Tour runs through October before taking the productions to venues across the UK.

We went to see a Mozart opera, Don Giovanni. Whilst we appreciate that the Glyndebourne festival is a summer event, we were shocked that there was not adequate provision for the unpredictable English weather. We, and numerous others, were complaining about how cold it was, even in the auditorium, which is completely unnecessary. We ordered some white wine at the... More

After the summer season of operas, Glyndebourne goes touring, but starts with a 'home' production. We were lucky enough to see the soon-to-be-touting production of Don Giovanni which was stunning: simple , flexible set, youngish singers with great voice and the unparalleled acoustic of the theatre. If you get a chance to see this near you this Autumn, don't miss... More

We aren't opera buffs and we needed a fair bit of encouragement to give Glyndebourne a try. But we are so glad we did. On successive days we saw Don Giovanni and Mme Butterfly. Both superb productions. The location is ideal. The acoustics were excellent. The seats comfortable. The atmosphere relaxed and not at all snobbish. Dress was casual and... More

Glyndebourne offers world class music in a beautiful setting. The opera house itself is a fabulous venue and the whole experience feels very special. Opera has the reputation for being expensive but we saw the excellent touring company for less than £30 per ticket and that wasn't even the cheapest price.

We went to see a performance of Madam Butterfly and like a previous reviewer was moved to tears. We sat in the upper circle and the view and acoustics were excellent. I was a little taken aback by the height but soon got used to it! We didn't picnic but chose to eat in the restaurant - another time I... More

An evening at Glyndebourne to watch Mozart's opera Don Giovanni transported me away from day to day life to another place where music and theatrical artistry are totally sublime. The setting is achingly exquisite and the experience indescribable, so what more can i say? The housekeeping and organisation are amazingly co-ordinated to make the process of enjoying the evening so... More

We saw a production of Madam Butterfly which was so good that it moved me to tears. It was set in the 1950s and the idea worked a treat; it brought the story alive and placed it in a credible setting which accentuated the whole feel of the piece which I'd never quite previously felt. My wife thoroughly enjoyed it... More

I had a wonderful time attending a 4 pm performance of Don Giovanni. The Glyndebourne staff were helpful and kind throughout the evening. When we arrived it began raining lightly and some young men met guests and gave out umbrellas. After the opera finished it was great having more young staff in the grounds helping to direct people, many elderly... More

The Glyndebourne experience is unique, an Opera house in the middle of the country side in a very beautiful setting. Usually the performances are early like 4:30 or 5:30 PM. you arrive and have a picnic on the grounds or just walk the grounds that are very beautiful(see photos)at intermission (long) you can have dinner at one of the 3... Glyndebourne is an experience like no other. We are not huge fans of opera and had never seen a performance before attending Glyndebourne for the last show at the summer festival of A Midsummer Night's Dream. However, we loved the entire day from start to end. We arrived a couple of hours to early to set up our table in... More
