In a converted water tower of all places. Great views of the Downs and the coast in real life from the top of the tower, and even more views via the camera obscura. Despite all the moving images we see all the time, everyone was genuinely excited to see a moving image in front of us via the mirror and... More

We came here primarily to see the camera obscura, having just seen one in Spain and suddenly realising we had one on our own doorstop. It is run by volunteers and open on Tuesday's, Thursday's and the last Saturday of the month at 11am, 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm and costs £2. It’s best to try and go on a... More

A bit difficult to find but worth it. We went with our children who loved it. Fascinating to see the camera obscura working.

I'm sure that this would be a lovely attraction if it were open. It's a bit of a schlep out of Brighton so to get there and find a piece of paper on the gate telling you it's shut all summer 2015 was somewhat annoying. Not a great start to the day out in Brighton. It looks like a lot... More

You know what it's like, you live close by, it's a familiar sight so you take it for granted. Having received a leaflet from their recent sainsburys visit and realising there was a cafe on site (everyone loves a cuppa that's not in their own mugs) we decided to walk the 5 min journey across the field and visit the... The camera is housed in an old water tower on top of the downs and there are spectacular views of the surrounding coast and countryside. In Victorian times these were a popular attraction, to-day there are very few places where one can step inside the body of a camera to experience the thrill of seeing the outside world projected at... Foredown Tower is actually in Portslade not Brighton, The Camera Obscura is open on Tuesday and Thursday, with wonderful views - a real must. There is a lovely cafe with garden on the ground floor, with very cheerful helpful happy staff. Also a good stop off for people out walking, be it their dog or something longer. Suitable for most... The camera obscura is fab! It's like watching a round film of the 360 degrees surroundings, in live detail. My faves are cars and trucks zipping by on the by-pass, you can even see seagulls flying! And people walking their dogs. The demonstrator was very knowledgeable, also about the remnant workings of the water tower. Friendly and helpful staff welcomed... More

I was walking past the tower on a very hot day and thought I live nearby but have never been in,so I paid and went in,it was as hot as a sauna no windows open and no air,the guide made it as interesting as possible but there not too much you can say about a camera, the water tower was interesting...
