We visited Athelhampton House for a friend's wedding. The day was a winter washout but this venue transformed the day and was simply perfect. A proper old English venue, with a roaring fire, professional house staff and everything you could need including a hall, glass atrium and full bar. A wonderful setting and well worth a visit.

Dear Our_Tim Thanks for the great review for Saturdays wedding, it certainly was a washout, I spend much of the time handing out brollies on the front gate! I am so pleased that you had a great time, I do hope you get the chance to visit on a sunny day to view the stunning gardens. Best wishes Owen More

Just been to a lovely ball here, drinks served in the beautiful hall then a short walk to the annexe for a most fantastic meal. Starter was leek and mushroom puff pastry tart with melted Brie then fillet of beef with delicious vegetables, pudding 3 mini desserts then to follow cheeses with biscuits and grapes plus coffee and mints. Usually... More

Dear tissueharmonics Many thanks for the great review, especially as it was for one of events at Athelhampton, which though we do so many banquets, weddings and function the reviews are a rarity. We apply our high standard of catering to everything we do, and use fresh seasonal ingredients throughout our menus, we work hard to avoid those bland crowd... More

We won a family ticket in a raffle, so came here with our two 6 year olds. It is a lovely house and gardens, which kept the interest of the children for a couple of hours. What really made it was the fantastic staff - so friendly and informative, one of whom even handed out roasted marshmallows from the fire!... More

Dear ToneSenior Thanks for the great review, so glad you had a great time and the children enjoyed it as well. Well done for winning the ticket, we love helping local charities with their raffles, but sadly not everyone uses theirs. I appreciate that you don't think you would pay full price to visit again, but our Family Admission is... More

I have been attempting to visit Athelhampton House all year but the traffic from the South has stopped me. I finally made it during half term with my 14 yr old son. What a beautiful house. We were both in awe of the made up rooms, the roaring open fire and the ghostly tales from the very helpful curator. The... More

Such a pleasure to see a house like this being well-used and occupied. The gardens are lovely too. What really impressed me was the restaurant. Wholesome food, well presented and served efficiently. The staff were very friendly and well turned out and the whole ambience of the place was just a cut above that normally found at a stately home.... More

We had a lovely afternoon at the house and gardens, starting with a very good lunch served by friendly and efficient staff. They even provided a wheel chair so that my father-in-law had the opportunity to see the house and gardens. The house itself is magnificent. A log fire was burning and the atmosphere is relaxed and warm- despite the... More

You may get drawn to Athelhampton by the fantastic quality of this historic house, or by the interest and beauty of the gardens, but don't forget to make time also for the exceptionally good restaurant. We had lunch there recently and were really impressed by the wide range and high quality of the meals on offer. Add a well-stocked bar,... More

Dear Robert W You are so kind to give such a great review, with particular mention about our restaurant. Athelhampton is somewhat different from many attractions, as our restaurant and visitor centre is open to everyone, not just visitors that pay an admission. We have a great following for lunch and afternoon tea and work hard to make sure that... More

A spectacular 15 century Manor House and grounds near the Dorset town of Dorchester with Tudor architecture. Linenfold paneling, stained glass, and lots of historic furnishings. Beautiful gardens with pyramid shaped Yew tress which are the most famous. if you are lucky you will be treated to seeing the white doves flying back and forth.

Dear HillaryNewYork Thanks for the great review, so pleased you had a great time. The doves are magical, they all live together in our medieval dovecote, last time I counted there must have been 300 or so before I lost count! Best wishes Owen More
