The Totnes Elizabethan House Museum is a great way to spend a day out in Totnes, whatever the weather outside!

What will you want to see? Our resident ghost? Our Elizabethan Herb garden? Our medieval kitchen? Our collection of medicines from the middle ages? Our spiral staircase made from a ship's mast? Or is it Totnes' illustrious son, Charles Babbage, who invented the first mechanical computer, whatever your interest in history is the Totnes Museum is a fascinating place to spend of few hours of your time.

A small party of us spent a brilliant hour or so here. Really interesting displays, not dumbed down - although there is an interactive section for children. Many were particularly interested in the display on Charles Babbage and the computer. The house itself is a jewel, gleaming floors and a garden at the back where the group could have had... More

Beautiful museum on Fore Street. The building itself is a star attraction. The exhibits are very interesting and the staff helpful and very friendly. Not to be missed on a visit to Totnes

Instead of saying "we must go in here some time", we actually did, and had a wonderful couple of hours. The frontage is quite small, but like theTardis is deceptive, and really helps you travel through time. Lots of interest, and presented in a really accessible way. Liked the little pharmacy and grocery shop tucked round the corner. The Babbage... More

Thank you for your review, you summed up our museum perfectly it is like a Tardis - with rooms over three floors and an elizabethan kitchen and still room on the lower ground floor - yes, penty to do for children so I do hope you can bring them soon - Kate Custodian More

Another great museum that we have visited in the devon/Somerset area. Great value for 3 pounds with some interesting exhibits spread over 3 floors. Supposed to be haunted too.

As a family group of grandparents and 2 grandchildren (9 and 12) we really enjoyed this Museum! There really was something for everyone and lots of fascinating ' hands on' activities for the children, as well as the challenge to find the hidden mice! Admission for the family was £8 which was very reasonable considering all there was to see... More

We popped into the Museum whilst wandering about the high street on a day visit to Totnes. Our two children were hooked instantly and really enjoyed exploring. The staff were extremely welcoming and gave us pointers on what to look out for. We all especially enjoyed the Kitchen and Still. Definitely worth a visit!

It is always pleasing to hear that children enjoyed exploring the museum - we hope to fire their imagination with quizzes and hunt the mouse game as well as dressing up in Elizabethan costumes. Thank you for your kind words regarding the Staff who are all Volunteers and love nothing more than to help our visitors. Kate Tyler Custodian More

What a treasure, if in Totnes you must visit. It's much bigger than it looks from the front and is full of history. Child and dog friendly

We popped in on Tuesday 21st June, it was quiet at the time, were the only ones there, but that was OK with us! The lady there was very nice and helpful. She gave us a good brief on the building and its history, and explained the way around well. She offered to keep hold of my large back pack... More
