Kents Cavern is by far Britain's most important prehistoric cave used by ancient humans for the last 500,000 years including Neanderthals and early modern humans.

The caves are open every day for guide tours, 7 days a week with natural caverns, amazing natural formations, remains of mammoth, woolly rhino, sabre-toothed cats, an Ice Age woodland trail quest, nice shop and cafe with views over the Ilsham Valley.

The closest hotel to the attraction is the Gleneagles, inspiration for TV's Fawlty Towers. We are 2km from Torquay Harbour and only 15 mins walk from the South West Coast Path and local beaches, well-known to previous visitors like Agatha Christie, Beatrix Potter, George V, Alfred Wallace and Charles Darwin.

Perfect for a rainy or sunny day by the seas, winter or summer.

Very interesting guided tour of prehistoric caves. Lots of things to see, including stalagmites and stalactites, as well as embedded fossils. Very atmospherically lighted so you can see everything as the guide explains it. There is a very nice cafe and souvenir shop and easy parking right outside. Well worth a visit, particularly in inclement weather.

I din't even know it was there, but what a fabulous experience. Very well organised, whilst retaining the wonder of the Cavern. Very informative not only about the Caves but also about the natural history of the area. Well worth visiting

One damp day in August last year we decided to take my parents to visit kents Caven. We very much enjoyed the day, it was very well organised and the tour guides full of enthusiasm and lots of great information. We followed our visit with Lunch in there restaurant which was very good though the restaurant felt a little cold... More

We joined some friends to celebrate our friends 55th birthday. We live in Torquay and many of our group hadn't been since they were kids. It was really enjoyable. Alan our guide was informative as well as funny. After our hour long tour we went in to the café where the staff had laid on a lovely cream tea. It... More

One of those things you never do because it's on your doorstep. We went on the last guided tour of the day on a wet Friday in March with about 6 other people. We were the only people on the premises other than the staff. Simon, our guide, was friendly, very informative and added plenty of humour to the 45... More

Unusual thing to see from way back in time, how animals then people took shelter in the caves. Not for the very young ones, could be frightend in the dark. David was a good guide.

It was a nice experience, different thing to do nearly the sea. The price was £10, a little expensive for 45 min. The tour guide was really warm, friendly and knew a lot of history about the cave.

Great to take my son and very interesting with a great guide. Only problem is you are herded through like cattle. I would recommend a visit for educational value.
