Since its foundation in 1196, Torre Abbey has witnessed, survived and even played a role in some epic moments of history. It is one of the best buildings in the country to tell the story of 800 years of Catholicism between 1196 and 1930. This museum uses a clever mix of authentic artefacts with hi-tech interpretation. From talking portraits and statues to interactive displays and one of the largest fine art collections in the South West, there really is something for everyone. Follow the garden trails or pick up a family guide or Experts' Choice to discover many hidden mysteries. With a wealth of exotic plants, the gardens are a tranquil haven of beauty and pleasure and the perfect setting in which to relax, stroll or picnic. Children can explore the garden and bring the Abbey to life using our special discovery backpacks. Browse our shop stocked with a range of souvenirs, gifts and books or sit down and enjoy a selection of drinks, snacks and light meals in the tearooms. The house, Spanish Barn and Palm House are licensed for civil weddings, partnership ceremonies and christenings. Torre Abbey can also cater for functions, corporate hospitality or training events. A varied programme of events takes place at Torre Abbey throughout the year. Tours of the house are available out of hours to groups of 30 or more. Following the recent restoration project, the Abbey now boasts a new educational suite which provides opportunities for students of all ages to get involved and explore the Abbey's history.

Not cheap, but something for the adults and a room where kids can dress up as princes/ princesses, knights which our 4 yr old loved. They also had activities in the gardne for kids (including brass rubbing). Staff were really helpful and friendly. Free return visit on the following day.

This is such a lovely place to go with family, friends or on your own. There's a lot to see especially if it's a nice sunny day as you can walk through the gardens and look at the stunning flowers, or if it's a rainy day you can look around the house and then go to the tea rooms for... More

Fascinating visit to the Abbey, with lots of interactive exhibits, as well as paintings and various artifacts, telling the history of the abbey and the local area. I particularly liked the medeival monologues on the top floor (of three). A lift takes you to the top floor (or you can use the stairs), then you meander down to the bottom... More

Be prepared for a Hogwarts like experience with paintings and plates coming to life to tell the many stories heads by these walls. The gardens are being lovingly restored. Great conservatory. Good rainy day activity.

A fascinating look in to the history of the abbey and the surrounding area in Torquay, four floors of exhibits and displays as well as gardens and greenhouses to walk around. Visit a tourist information centre before visiting to find a 25% discount vouchers for adult admission (kids are free).
