This huge natural harbour means that inexperienced sailors can enjoy real sea sailing in safety. I once threw a hand line over the side and was cooking mackerel onboard twenty minutes later.

Plymouth Sound has so much to offer - watch the ferries, frigates and yachts manoeuvre their way of the the sound into open water and stop off for a wander around the historic Barbican where there is a wide range of good restaurants and pubs. Make sure you stop at The Mayflower Steps to imagine the Pikgrims setting off for... More

A great place to visit, fantastic views out to sea. Watch the navy ships entering or leaving the Sound or the ferries bound for Roscoff. Always something different every day

Plymouth is a natural harbour and the setting on the Hoe looking out over Plymouth sound is second to none. You can park right beside it, there are beautiful gardens around it where you can sit and picnic, or if you want there are ample places to eat some great food. Have a stroll down to the historic Barbican and... More

Lovely to walk along the promenade, plenty of places to get a coffee or snack to eat. The Waterfront Public house and restaurant is close by you can sit outside and take in the sea view or eat inside especially on a cold day

My wife took me Mackerel fishing, a little bit strange for a birthday but it was fabulous. We travelled out to Cawsand Bay, what a view. We then tried our luck right out by the breakwater, looking up towards Jennycliff and back towards the hoe, barbican and across Plymouth Sound was great. A thoroughly enjoyable but different day out

Wether you are afloat or gazing at the sound from Plymouth Hoe the sight of the sound will take your breath away. Better still if you take one of the pleasure cruises out past the Hoe and up to the dockyard. An amazing place.
