The Plym Valley Railway has re-built a one and a half mile section of the ex-Great Western branch line from Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge. The line used to run from Tavistock Junction, just outside of Plymouth, to Launceston. It is a heritage railway centre where we are preserving steam and diesel locomotives, carriages, wagons, and other historic railway artifacts to recreate the atmosphere of a bygone age.We operate passenger trains on selected days over a section of the line from our station at Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge Platform.New and enthusiastic volunteers are needed in all departments, including Motive Power, Permanent Way, Carriage and Wagon, Building and Works, fund raising and retail outlets.

My wife and I took our three nieces/nephews and our friend's one year old girl on this trip on Saturday 17th December. Although the whole outfit is organised and run by volunteers, we were surprised by the whole event. While the ride was somewhat short, the mini event at the end was worthwhile. For the sake of a measly £5... More

So we have been here several times with our two year old son. He simply loves it. Considering it is run by volunteers I feel they don't get the credit they deserve. Always polite, friendly and make the experience excellent for my so. I've been on the diesel and the brake van rides with my son and I being in... More

we took our grandchildren to this place yesterday, sun 11 sept, it was advertised on their own leaflet as having a steam train running, and it costs £4 return for adults, and £2 for children. when we arrived it was a diesel engine not steam, and they had decided to raise the price by 50% for a return trip. we... Hi Allan, Firstly thank you for your review and feedback. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with us. Unfortunately our leaflets were produced in November 2015 and at that stage we believed it would be steam, however, several delays in the voluntary restoration of the steam engine led to it being diesel hauled- as advertised on the event... Hi Aaron, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with us and I can only apologise for this. The fares were raised due to the extra attractions ie band, beer festival, miniature railway. The event itself was advertised as a diesel locomotive due to the unavailability of a steam locomotive. In our leaflets, which... More

Have visited this attraction several times alone and with grand children who love the trains and the novelty of travelling by steam. All the volunteers are helpful and their enthusiasm for the steam heritage is obvious. Journey to the Plymbridge Station then explore the woods and trails before returning for a welcome cup of tea in the buffet.

A ride along the banks of the river Plym to the platform at Plym Bridge and them a lovely walk up to the viaduct at Camm woods. Down the path besides, and a walk back besides the river to the train. What a great way to... More
