Overview
More
The paddle steamer Kingswear Castle is the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in operation in the UK today. She was built in 1924 at Philip & Son of Dartmouth. The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society spent 15 years fully restoring her to her former glory offering river trips on the Medway from 1985. In late 2012, she returned to the home waters of the River Dart after an absence of 47 years.

A great afternoon in the bygone days as we cruised in the June sunshine. This beautiful boat has been wonderfully restored to it's former glory, and is now working from it's home town. Very amusing & informative commentary from the Captain as we enjoyed the...More

We booked the round robin trip so we could go on the Paddle Steamer - the ticket office at Churston was really helpful with times and connections. The staff helped us on as parents both had sticks, got seats - although the general public were...More

A lovely trip on a genuine piece of history, now returned to its rightful place. The crew are helpful and the commentary is informative (with appalling jokes), but the real star is the boat herself. And, yes, the toilets are unique!

We had travelled to Dartmouth from Hampshire on a special train day trip. It fitted in nicely with the sailing times of The Kingswear Castle a coal fired paddle steamer. We took the trip around the Dart Estuary, her last for this year. It lasted...More

Whilst we were in Dartmouth for the day we decided to have a river trip, we had the choice of a conventional diesel powered river trip boat or the last remaining coal fired Paddle Steamer left in the UK today. We decided on the Paddle...More

We were fortunate to have reasonable weather for the steam train, foot ferry and paddle steamer trip, not quite a "Round Robin" so a bit complicated to book on their web site - as we're locals, we booked our trip in person at the booking...More

This boat should advertise itself as a relaxation service it made my normally hyperactive 2 year old fall into a deep sleep after ten minutes and to be honest me and my wife nearly did the same towards the end but don't take that as...More
