Overview
More
Tate St Ives features work by iconic 20th century artists who lived and worked in the town, including Alfred Wallis, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, demonstrating the role of St Ives in the story of modern art. This is combined with a new programme of large-scale seasonal shows, the next of which, Patrick Heron, opens on Saturday 19th May and runs until Sunday 30th September. The exhibition will stretch from Heron’s early work in the 1940s to his death at the very end of the 20th century, showing the full evolution of his vibrant abstract paintings.

The newly extended Tate St Ives - well new to me - is astonishingly good. The current exhibition describes and illustrates the relationship between the vibrant artists of St Ives and the development of art internationally. There is a wide range of fine with perhaps...More

We mad the trip to St Ives, principally to visit the Tate Gallery and weren't disappointed. A good selection of artwork, helpful notes on many of the works and a great exhibition of works by Patrick Heron (not someone we had come across before). Great...More

After 20 minutes in the Tate, I just had to leave. It is very confusing, the way it is laid out. I found it a bit disconcerting. The best pieces are the works of Bernard Leach.

I was interested to learn how many artists had links with St Ives and it was great to see their work displayed in such a way that the history made sense. Really lovely gallery with wonderful views too.

Well, I thought I’d try this place as there’s so much hype. I was very disappointed. I found the art very much on the same lines. I would have liked to see a lot more different styles.

This is a most striking building overlooking Porthmeor beach but not very accessible for people with mobility issues.Appreciation of the modern art works is obviously down to personal taste but I found the Patrick Heron retrospective quite poorly arranged and many of the paintings looked...More

OK, I don't like modern art and the contents of this gallery don't appeal to me. But I visited it with family who were very keen to go, one of whom has difficulty walking. So why would you build such a gallery in the most...More

I have planned this trip for a while. I studied the work of Heron with my art tutor and so I was very excited to see them "in the flesh". I loved the Tate building; so many lovely views of Porthmeor Beach from a variety...More

Love the architecture of the Tate Gallery, the pictures were just not my type of art. In saying that I am very conservative as far as art is concerned. The building is beautiful with wonderful views of the beach from the balcony. All in all...More
