Tate St Ives features work by iconic 20th century artists who lived and worked in the town, including Alfred Wallis, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, demonstrating the role of St Ives in the story of modern art. This is combined with a new programme of large-scale seasonal shows, the next of which, Patrick Heron, opens on Saturday 19th May and runs until Sunday 30th September. The exhibition will stretch from Heron’s early work in the 1940s to his death at the very end of the 20th century, showing the full evolution of his vibrant abstract paintings.

After the Tate had been closed for a major refurb, it was time to go and explore. The building seems not to have changed dramatically, though it's ten years since my last visit, still lots of steps, white, concrete walls, chrome and the overwhelming impression...More

It’s recently been revamped. The museum is light and airy. The permanent collection has strong Cornish connections. The Patrick Heron exhibitions a must see but make sure you have a very reasonably priced cream tea with warm scones!

The building itself was quite interesting, so just look at it from the outside and don’t bother going in.

Very disappointed indeed. Greatly overpriced. Art?? we didn't think so!. Miserable man on reception. Dirty cafe. To be blunt, a waste of money and time. Go walk on the beach or round the Island and spend your money enjoying a coffee. To sum up, the...More

I am a member (Tate Modern) and I greatly enjoy the Tate, but I do consider that the art found here and at the Tate Modern to be ridiculous nonsense. Well worth a visit if you have a sense of humour. If not, buy an...More

Wonderful building, really shows off the mainly locally-connected artists very well. Introduced to some new artists who look set to become favourites. And yes, the cafr is worth a visit, for the views alone.

Awful, both the special exhibition spaces were empty and in one room there was a guided tour which hogged the whole space so you couldn’t get to see the exhibits. Tate St Ives caters only to tourists who wand tea in the nice cafe. If...More

What a building! Worth visiting for the building alone! Despite not really “understanding” this type of art - I really enjoyed myself. Take the family - they will all find something to like!
