The noise reduction and beauty of the canals surroundings make for a peaceful experience. Had a busy week of hustle and bustle this is the place to go for a little bit of relaxation and me only time.

We stayed at a hotel very near the canal, on City Road, and walked along the towpath a few times, back and forth into the city centre. Very few photo opportunities and mostly very unattractive surroundings.

The Chester Canal was beautiful even though it was cloudy after raining for several hours and cold and damp outside, We still enjoyed a walk along side it

A lovely Canal, and a lovely walking area, lovely views of the canal boats, floating by. Well worth a visit, if your in the area. Recommended.

We followed a stretch of the canal from the east wall and along the north. So far along the north wall we saw a lock with a boat preparing to go down it. Finding the nearest staircase off the wall we backtracked to the lock....More

I have lived all my life in Chester but have only recently walked along the canal beyond the city centre. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how interesting and pretty the canal is around the Great Boughton area. There are several narrow locks in quick...More

The Shropshire Union Canal cuts through the city and runs alonsgide the walls at one point near Northgate. Lovely to see the narrowboats and the towpath gives contrasting views from that found on the walls. A little untidy in places although rubbish clearance was underway.
