We booked this Roman tour to take place on a rainy Good Friday in Chester. Our guide, dressed as a Roman soldier, was Marcus. You rarely meet a tour guide with such a depth of historical knowledge. He was a like a walking encyclopaedia of life for Roman soldiers in Chester. It was just as well that Marcus knew so... More

This is a perfect way to see historic Chester and learn about the Roman's and their impact upon Chester. Our tour guide, Pertinax, was excellent and definitely knew his stuff! Highly recommended if visiting Chester for the day.

Pertinax was an excellent guide to Roman Chester, telling us and showing us things that we would not otherwise have found out, and making everything interesting.

We visited on a very sunny Saturday in Chester. Tiberius was our tour guide and he was brilliant - very informative and took us to see things that we otherwise would have missed, such as the only piece of original Roman mosaic flooring in situ in the city. He had some interesting artefacts to look at too. Our children aged... More

We met our guide, who was dressed as a Roman Soldier, by the town hall, and we're guided round Chester, with Roman history pointed out to us and explained in a way our young daughter could understand. The pace is not frenetic, but it is a lot of walking, so very young children may struggle a little. Genuinely interesting, the... More

We toured Chester, discovering so much of its Roman past, with Pertinax, who may well have been a real true Roman! He brought history alive, not just dressed the part but a fund of knowledge and information, making the town we know well give way to Roman baths, gladiator fights, feasts, orgies and daily life of citizens and slaves. A... More

I planned a trip to Chester during my stay in northern England. I really enjoyed the tour. The authentic reenactment the Roman soldier guide presented was impressive down to the period nails in his shoes. It was a pleasure to learn about the history of Chester. I never would have known of it's Roman origins. Thank you for an interesting,... More

Hilarious centurion and beautiful sights made for a great day out! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I can't recommend this enough for something to do in Chester or anyone looking to find out more about the history of the city

Whenever I'm in town, I can hear the children's voices, before I see them ,there on the Roman tour, the guide dressed as a Roman soldier, dressed just as he would have been , in Roman times,, and behind him , a stream of little children , with delight on there faces , shouting at the top of there voices,...
