You can see it for miles. The cathedral at Ely is magnificent both inside and out. The painted roof, the stained, glass, the modern sculpture, the lantern in the centre and so much more is truly awesome. The cafe inside the cathedral is good too with good service and excellent coffee and home made scones or cake. Reasonably priced too.... More

So I have yet to actually explore the inside properly other than going in to see the Christmas Tree lights go on.. It does look impressive from the outside and is nice to have around the corner. It is a lovely place in the summer specially when you are having a picnic in the park nearby with great views. I... More

Wow again amazed how such incredible cathedrals were built.. the stone masonry ..the arches the richness of it all and go up the narrow staircase to the heights and visit the glass museum but don't forget to visit the Old Fire Engine for coffee and lunch.

A fantastic cathedral stunningly beautiful BUT sadly for us our visit was marred by the fact that everything you wanted to see had a price tag on. An entrance fee then extra for a tower tour extra for the stained glass museum and so on and so on. Whilst there was a sign saying if you felt you couldn't afford... More

A spur of the moment decision to visit Ely Cathedral lead us to one of the best winter days out we have had, and leads me to rate the Cathedral 'Excellent'. Well preserved, rich in history this edifice, the Ship of The Fens is a genuine 'must see' for all lovers of history, architecture or places of worship. We chose... More

I stayed locally for 3 days whilst on business in December,so it was set up for Christmas. It looked fantastic, however it was night time and couldn't get access to certain parts of this beautiful building. If you are in the area its worth a visit

When I visit castles, cathedrals etc. I often think about the builders who spent their whole lives, in some cases, and not seeing the finished product. In a case like Ely I wondered about the logistics of transporting the materials to what was barely an island and building something that oozes beauty from every angle. We were there on New... More
