About
Cambridge Science Centre is nestled in the heart of the Cambridge Science Park at the Trinity Centre. The Centre is situated on the ground floor, it is easily accessible for those travelling by car, train and bus and via a safe and well-used walking route. Families can visit us at weekends and during school holidays, when they will have the opportunity to explore a range of over 20 new, open-ended and fun hands-on exhibits. Plus, we have new shows to enjoy AND new Lab and Workshop spaces where young people can experiment and challenge themselves with new concepts. Our experienced Science Communicators will be on hand to welcome you and support your children as they take up each new challenge. Although we predominately cater for children aged between 5 – 13 years, younger siblings are welcome too. There will be plenty for them to do and explore!

We visited for one of the interactive sessions being run over the holidays (the one we attended was about DNA). The two facilitators were very good at involving all the guests, which given the age range, was an achievement. In between activities there was time to explore the centre and the different activities/artefacts on show. There was a good range of science topics (I enjoyed the optical illusions) and the opportunity to take away some of their newsletters-which have topics to do at home. All three of us really enjoyed our visit-Thank you!

The highlight of a recent trip to Cambridge with my 5 year old daughter! We had booked 1 half term workshop and ended up doing an additional one as well we enjoyed it so much!

Staff were very engaging and kind and the activities very interesting. Covid measures were excellent as well.

Highly recommend for a really fun, engaging, educational trip with kids - we will be back!

We were in Cambridge last week and I saw they had and exhibition called Extreme Engineering and knew my son would like it. He loved it the exhibits and enjoyed talks on how motors work as well as a talk on engineered textiles that protect you from things like fire or bullets. He asked to come back repeatedly over several days, so I took him back.
It is a very small place, but if you have children who like to have tactile experiences, this is a good afternoon.

From the website you get the impression that this is a sizeable museum attraction suitable for all ages with show times for interesting films and events. However the reality is this is one small room with a number of hands on science activities really only suitable for children under 8. The "shows" advertised take place in the corner of the room using a few clips on a TV screen and some pictures or slides. Again the website makes them look a lot more substantial than they are. There is some audience interaction with questions and fun demonstrations which is fine if your kids are 5 or 6 years old. I have no idea why the website lists the events as suitable for 14, 15 16+ age groups as they'd be bored in less than 5 minutes flat.
I would recommend it for a rainy day if you have small children but it is a waste of time and money for anyone over 8 or 9.

Hi SDC232014, Thank you for taking the time to review Cambridge Science Centre. We're really sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your visit but feedback both positive and negative helps us improve our service and visitor experience. As a hands-on, interactive centre, the average age of our visitors is 7-14 years old and our content for exhibits, shows and workshops mainly caters for this group, although we do not specify target age ranges on our website and social media. We do strive to offer something for everyone and our science communicators would have happily told you more about each exhibit and shared further information appropriate for your child's age and interest. Although we do not have an overly large floorspace we pride ourselves on making the most of the space that we have, packing it full of exciting and unique hands-on exhibits, meaning that most visitors stay for at least couple of hours. Thank you again for your review, we will feed this into our practice moving forward.-- Dr Sarah James Centre Manager Cambridge Science Centre

We took our 4 children 3,5,8,9 they all had a fantastic experience as did we. All gaining so much from the activities and experiments, at our own levels. We were there about 2 1/2 hours, leaving with the children desperate to return soon. I was thrilled with the range of activities, the space in the room, feeling safe and secure for the children to roam at their own pace, giving me and partner time with one child while the others were entertaining themselves.

Went here by chance when looking for something to do. It is only a small place but a very reasonable entry fee. Lots of interesting things to do and some great hands on talks about different science topics. We spent over an hour there with children from 3 to 8. Also there is a little gift shop that is actually priced really well. Would recommend, there is parking a short walk away on the multi storey.

This is small but great fun and we were here a couple of hours. We had huge fun making 'seeds' to fly in the wind tunnel and many other activities including the show about food travelling through your body. My 14 year old was 'too teenage(!)' for it as a family outing but I suspect may have enjoyed it if with friends the same age, but generally it was excellent and apparently the theme changes regularly.

I visited today with my 5 year old son. First impression was how small the centre is but don't be put off by that. The exhibits are so good each one is worth spending time with. They pitch the exhibits, which are difficult concepts for adults, let alone children at a sensible level to get the kids thinking. Not sure if they do this every day but today there was a science demonstration, perfectly pitched for the audience of typically 5-12 year olds. Overall absolutely brilliant. Better than expected. We'll be back.

If you are there for an average time (2-3 hours) you should enjoy 2 live demonstrations of various cool things mainly space orientated. We saw a hover board, a methane rocket, the materials of a space suit etc. the volunteers are enthusiastic and good with children. There are probably about 10 or so small exhibit stations, all of which encourage participation in a particular experiment. Also display of a rocket engine from 1961. Pretty cool.

The biggest detraction for us (although hardly the museum's fault) was the unruly group of badly brought up Italian kids monopolising all the stations and pushing other kids arounds while their beautifully dressed mothers stood there and did jack....

Went with our boys 12 & 9. On arrival thought "it's a bit small". But all the exhibits are very much hands on, and allowed my long forgotten A-level physics to return to explain to the younger generation.
Lovely friendly staff, and a super lecture on turning chocolate into "something brown and sticky" by the use of the digestive system, much to the great amusement of all the 4-12 year olds.
Priced at £10 for a family ticket good value for money.
