Named after the famous Venice landmark, Ponte dei Sospiri, this Neo-Gothic covered arch bridge connects campus buildings of St John's College. One of the most attractive sights in Cambridge.

There is nothing to see. You can only see from far. We recommend canoeing under. We did not bother!!

The Bridge of Sigh's in Venice is pretty impressive but I'd go out on a limb here and say the Cambridge edition is more impressive. More beautiful, more spectacular... just lovely! As a tourist you can't walk across it but if you pay to visit St John's College you'll be able to walk over the neighbouring bridge giving a great vantage point to see the Bridge of Sighs. If you go punting you'll also punt right under it. Well worth a look!

The best way to see the bridge obviously is by guided tour along the river.
The architecture of this bridge is just fabulous and sets the scene for the colleges.

A bridge of great history best seen from a punt on the River Cam, although we later went on land and walked across it, as so many students have over the years on their way to and from exams.

The only way you can get to see the Bridge of Sighs is by taking an expensive punting trip on the river or by paying £10 to view it through St Johns College which is a rip off. Disappointing.

I did both college tour and punting, so I could see the bridge from both inside and outside. I would recommend to walk on a bridge, architecture inside is amazing

My biggest bugbear with Cambridge is nothing opens before 10am and I'm an early riser, so I thought I'd take a walk to see the bridge of sighs before things opened. Google maps got me and it self totally lost. According to the porters, this is a daily event for them. So, you are warned, pay your money and see it as part of the St john's tour.
You cannot walk it, touch it; but you can look at a very pretty bridge, but then what do you do.
Nice to see, and worth the tour of St John;s, but you will not spend a lot of time there.

It's a very nice bridge over the river Cam which you would go under on a punting trip (boat tour). This bridge is named after the Venetian original bridge of sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) which was built around the 1600 and connected a jail to the interrogation rooms hence the prisoners would "sigh" when crossing it. This Cambridge version I believe was built a couple of hundred years later. Although not the original, it's still very pretty.

When I was in Cambridge, I noticed they have quite many bridges in there. This is easily one of the most beautiful one.
Not sure what is the easiest way to get here, but we went through the St. Johns College and ended by the bridge.

Yes, there is a large WW2 American cemetery just to the north of Cambridge. Not easily walkable for the Bridge of Sighs. Bus or taxi
