Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was expecting a lot more from The Christmas Steps, but it was so disappointing!

There were lots of closed and empty shops and nothing on the steps that made you want to step inside and have a look.

Scaffolding was also another major issue, the place looks run down and tbh it looks better at the bottom of the steps facing up, there a couple of very old shops at the bottom before you get onto the Christmas Steps and an interesting mosaic eye on the wall.

Maybe in the 1600's it would have been a hive of activity with all the hustle and bustle but in the 21st century it could do with an injection of cash and independent quirky shops lining the route.

This is a narrow lane on a hill with mainly independent shops lining either side of steps of the lane. It's not all that exciting.

If you approach Christmas Steps from Colston Street and look down the crooked line it traces you could feel as if you might accost characters from an Anthony Trollope novel. It could Venerable be Jane Austen as steep steps were completed in 1669. You could imagine Harry Potter there too. There are quaint bijou establishments lining both sides and many are curious – each in their own way. There is an excellent cider shop too. Christmas Steps have featured in a fair few films and television productions: it is easy to understand why. A wonderful experience for anyone with a love of history and for anyone wishing to shed a few pounds un weight (like me) try a few turns up and down Christmas Steps and you will be amply rewarded.

I like this little historic part of Bristol, it gives you an idea how Bristol used to look like in the past. The quirky independent shops are worth visiting, there is a cool hairdresser with stuffed animals in the windows. I specially like the stuffed fox!
Shame about the hideous LED street lights they installed there recently. Not quite sure who signed off the planning for these out of character LED lamps. Very disappointed with Bristol City council!

Love this spot specially in the winter time, walking back home up the steps after we had few drinks in the town.

Perhaps as a local I cannot fully appreciate these steps. At the bottom is an excellent fish and chip shop that is very highly recommended. Up the steps are a number of specialist shops. Personally, I thought they were very specialist, and not that browsable. At the top is zero-degrees brew-pub, producing its own Lagers of good quality, and apparently the food is OK as well. Basically, if you are nearby and looking for a decent beer or fish and chips, it's worth a visit, but otherwise, not particularly worth a detour.

The steps provide a blast from the past with its historical roots! The small independent shops scattered along the journey are cute and offer many small odds and end that are great gifts! The steps are well maintained but still have a rugged nature serving as a reminder of their age.

As this is supposed to be one of the main tourist attractions in Bristol, I was massively disappointed. Ok it is a nice little alleyway (and a good shortcut to Colton Tower), but that is about it. Stone steps and tatty shops. Not much of an attraction there.

We happened upon this area one evening when we made a wrong turn on the way back to our hotel. What a gem! Although it was late evening we enjoyed walking up the steps and soaking in the charming atmosphere. I had never heard of this before and it should be promoted as a must see destination. The history is fascinating.

There are a few interesting independent shops in this steep hill of a street. Used to be so much more before the lower end disappeared to become part of the busy roads in the city. Worth a wander through on a nice day.
