These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

Beautiful at any time of the year. There are a few places a wheelchair can't access but the views are available from other paths. If you are in a manual chair, a few of the slopes are easier with a friend to push. :) There are accessible restaurants and rest rooms.

Being able to visit the stunning Butchart Gardens a few times throughout the year, for the last 9 years has made me more and more appreciative of it's beauty and the creativity of the team of gardeners. It is impossible to find a weed in all this perfection. Each season looks just a beautiful as the next. Strolling through the... More

I could not imagine how beautiful a place could be like this. It is breathtaking to see the handiwork of this place. Surely this must be a place that GOD looks down and sees and enjoys seeing what his creation has done with an old quarry.

These gardens are spectacular in setting and in planting, layout and maintenance - even manage to provide clear umbrellas about the site for rainy days. The site is a horticultural delight with an incredible range of trees, shrubs and seasonal planting, with native and specimen planting across a range of natural and designed outside spaces such as Japanese and rose... It is beautiful. Lots of walking. Takes about 2 hrs to see. If you are doing this as an excursion from a cruise ship, you might feel rushed. It takes about 45 minutes by bus to get there, leaving about 1 1/2 hrs to see the gardens. We cut our tour short to make sure that we got back to... More

I visited this amazing place after foot surgery and I was on a motorized device. It was very accessible. I was overwhelmed with the beauty. Lots of other people there but you are united in mutual awe. I was surprised to not see any birds. Probably because there were no bugs to eat. We stayed for the fireworks display. It... More

We visited Butchart Gardens and we were amazed at the different gardens. Even my 16-year-old son enjoyed it! Fabulous!

I hadn't been to Butchart Gardens in over 20 years and it was absolutely enchanting; a place of magical peaceful beauty, appealing not only to the eyes ,but the ears with the peace and the sounds of the violins & cello, the nose with all the beautiful fragrances we enjoyed . It was just a fantastic afternoon/ evening like something... More

I had heard of this place via pretty much word of mouth. I was only going to be in Victoria for 4 days and other than this place hadn't made any plans. I drove my car all the way from Nebraska, and so it made it all that much better when I had no schedule to keep. My one otherwise... More

Absolutely beautiful! We didn't realise the expanse of this place and didn't allow enough time to meander as you should. The ferry ride is great too a wonderful day out
