Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

Visited Jan 14, 2018. The weather was cool and sunny. Took an hour bus from Schwartz Bay. Nothing to see except landscaping of each garden. Walked around for an hour and it was not worth the $18 admission fee. Don’t come here during the winter.

This was my second time to these gardens (I was there 20 years ago) and as a landscape designer I am always looking to be impressed by garden designs. I was. Again. We hopped the CVS Tour Bus in front of the Empress Hotel and...More

It was an amazing evening light show in a Christmas winter wonderland! The theme was the 12 days of Christmas (my true love gave to me...), and each display created the perfect 'day' of Christmas, ending with the 12 Carolers singing - real people with...More

There's so much to see here and it's all gorgeous! Inspirations from all over but I noticed a lot of Japanese styles throughout. I visited with my parents during the spring a long time ago, which was a great season to come (not too hot...More

The Buchart Gardens are so well maintained and designed, they are such a treat to visit. This also means that tour buses can make it very crowded, particularly around midday, so be sure to go early to avoid the crowds and enjoy the spectacular gardens...More

It looked and felt lovely everything covered in snow. Unfortunatly not all paths were clear of snow and you were limited where you could walk which meant at times distance photo taking. The christmas lighting looked amazing and the 12 days of christmas decor was...More

Butchart is beautiful any time of year, but especially so in December! The lights are fantastic and the whole place is just magical. It's very easy to spend several hours walking around. Just remember to dress warmly as it does get cold in the evening!...More

I grew up in Victoria and have never been to Butchard Gardens. What a wonderland of delight to see with the snow covering everything. The only sad thing was there was no christmas music playing.

Hi Vicky and Tommy, Starting June 15th, the gates are open until 10pm, with viewing until 11pm. Depending on when you are visiting in June, it typically gets dark around 9 so you'll see the gardens at dusk and after dark... More

Buchart Gardens is open in January, but be mindful it's winter so you will not see blooming roses, etc., however the shrubs and trees are beautiful.
