Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As we were travelling north on toward Lyndhurst on Outback explorers way we just had to stop in to check out the underground bakery & restorations, have heard a lot from fellow caravaners about it.
Well what a bloody terrific job the volunteers have done to the old ruins & getting the original underground bakery restored & fully operational is an absolute credit to the volunteers.
They bread & rolls are baked fresh daily in the underground bakery & pies & others goodies in restoredPatterson house, well we just drooled over the bread & pies, purchased multigrain loaf & couple of pies, simply Devine…💛💛💛
As it is only open for 2 months in the winter, mid May to Mid July, it is a must see/ do on the drive.

The underground bakery had been recommended by other travellers. We would of had no idea as it is off the main road. Wow, wow, the bakery is only open a couple of months and run by volunteers. The nest food. The fruit loaf was absolutely amazing as well as the bread and sweets. Also bought some napkin holders all made locally.
Then we spent quite a while walking around this ongoing restoration of Farina. Those volunteers are totally committed.
Take the time to visit you won’t be disappointed.

It was with great expectation coming to Farina as a friend who is a Vollie there told me all about it, and I was not disappointed and in fact it was an overwhelming experience!
We had a great time for three days walking around the ruins and trying with help of the information boards to piece together what life was like long ago when Farina was a busy, bustling town that was a major stopover for the Ghan and many freight trains
Also the bakery is an absolute treat with delicious pies, pasties, cakes and beautiful bread :):)
Camping is off grid but if you get up early and light the fire under the Donkey Hot Water Service and a lovely shower awaits but also camp ground is great!!
Three nights there was not enough and do yourself a favor and travel there and enjoy the ruins and the efforts of a wonderful bunch of Vollies to repair and restore the area

Great little spot to stop bakery bread amazing I like what they’re doing to recreate the town unfortunately a very rude man with a volunteer vest on and Support dog that was barking and aggressive tried to cause a fight with myself and my husband when we touched the water towerit’s a shame that all the visitors dogs were so well behaved. This man should not have a support dog that is so aggressive with visitors out in the open. It’s very disappointing when we were about to make a large nation to the volunteers.

We tried to stay at Maree but it was all booked out so we decided to stay here instead and I’m so pleased we did. Huge camping ground with lots of space. More than 1 toilet block and hot showers when the fire under the drum was lit.
Well kept camping area and toilets were clean. You could buy firewood from the station before 6pm.
Also the Farina ruins are great to wander though and the Bakery is amazing

$20 donation on departure. Well spaced cleared unpowered camp sites. Donkey shower system-plenty of hot water. Clean amenities. Beautiful sunset. Not too crowded. So much information provided about days gone by.

First time visit to this ruined town.
Very well signed ruins of buildings, explaining uses and occupancy.
Rebuilt underground bakery opens certain times of year.
Great camping near creek with hot water showers via a wood fired donkey. Need to take own wood.
Well worth the donation and stay a couple of nights.

Farina is an evolving restoration being undertaken by a large group of wonderfully dedicated volunteers!! The underground Bakery is only open for 2 months, but not to be missed! The town is of great historical significance and a very interesting walk back in time! Very popular & worth the short drive from Lyndhurst, on a usually well graded section of dirt!

Volunteers are working to restore the ruined stone homes of this once important railhead. Marvel at the fully restored old underground bakery which goes into production producing yummy pies and bread for 8 weeks to raise money for the restoration work. The nearby bush camping offers hot showers and toilets adjacent to an impressive War Memorial on the hill. A must to visit!

Farina was settled as the first rail head when the railway was built north from Pt Augusta. Owing to various circumstances it was not a rail head for long as the railway line was extended to Maree etc. The towns maximum population was 300 and it slowly died.
Now it is slowly being reborn at the willing hands of a group of loving volunteers.
The group of vollies work for 2 months a year, June and July, and so far have re commissioned an underground bakery that makes the bestest bread loaves and pies tarts etc. It is all cooked in an oven which is underground, yes, you access the oven by walking down a set of stairs. All the goodies are sold under a marquee at ground level.
Work is currently underway at stabilising a lot of the buildings that Mother Nature has started to disassemble over the years. These may not be fully restored but stopped from falling into further disrepair. There is a lot of interactive history to read around the site. The old railway tracks are still discernible, the turning triangles are easy to see.
There are a couple of very good walking trails that follow both the wide and standard gauges rail tracks that were built at Farina.
There is an excellent campground under a large group of trees behind Farina, cost $5 per person per night. Toilets and hot water showers are available. It might be necessary for some one to light the donkey boiler to get hot water but it is available.
On a small hill to the north of the campground is an memorial to all the farina men who did not return from either world war.
This memorial, being on a hill gives wonderful views of sunset and sunrise.
