A special place. The weather & tides are unpredictable, and am not a waterman, so opted for 7 days on Atlas Tours’ converted 42’ fishing trawler. Learned so much from the boat’s Captain Barrett, and from the Watchmen at each site weather & tides permitted...More

These island are magic. The village sites especially Ninstints were great and the watchmen very informative. We had pretty good kayaking weather and the camping places we found were very comfortable even in the rain. The Park is a must see both for kayakers as...More

A thought provoking place that makes you question why we never learned our own First Nations history in school over learning about the Americans. A powerful story that shows the respect the Haida have for community, authority, and family.

Its a privilege to visit this location. Nestled in a cove, loaded with millennia of history. Watchmen/guides with great depth of knowledge. I felt that here, rather than in any traditional museum, I could find some understanding and enormous respect for the indigenous culture.

The guardians were great, very informative about the Haida culture, and the history of the islands. It was a highlight of our trip to Haida Gwaii.

The Watchmen program really made this tour come to life. With a strong grasp of their cultural heritage, the Watchmen (and women) bring these relics to life and help one to make sense of the symbolism of these poles and all Haida poles.

Getting to SG is challenging but fun. For us it was an hour flight in a Beaver aircraft followed by 29 minutes in a zodiac. SG is a Haida village that was vacated after small pox decimated the population in the 1860's. Today Haida Watchmen...More

We visited as a part of a week long kayaking trip and paddled into a bay. It was a short walk to the building where you get a guide to bring you through the old village. You get a small group of maybe 10 or...More

To be out in such vast, rugged wilderness, to walk near such an interesting part of history, to learn of the peoples that inhabited those lands, to see their original Mortuary Poles...well, it is something to behold! Accessible by boat or seaplane only! If you...More

I visited Ninstints as a part of a 7 day tour of Haida Gwaii and found it absolutely fascinating. You are greeted by the old mortuary totems and met by one of the Haida guides known as Watchman who are extremely knowledgable about the area....More

This is actually many hours by zodiac to get there. There are tours that get you to that point that do not make you paddle there. I am not sure this is the answer that you were hoping for, but Morseby Explorers has a 4 Day... More
