For more than 90 years, The Dory Shop has been building traditional Banks dories and other classic wooden boats for fishermen and recreational boaters. Located on the waterfront in Old Town Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the oldest continuing production commercial wooden boat shops in North America and a delight for lovers of wood and boats. See dories and even wooden schooners on the build. Boat building classes also offered.

Builders Bub and Andrew are nearly always on hand to have a chat about the Dory Shop, the history of dory building, and about the town of Lunenburg in general. We were very fortunate to stop by when the dory builder, Jay, was there, and he chatted about the big dory that he was fixing for the ship the Picton Castle, in the harbour . A definite "must see" for anyone interested in dory history. They are still being made, but who knows for how long. Definitely, a moment in... More

We went whale watching in Cape Breton and the weather was not acceptable enough for us to do it here. We spent our time wandering around town.
