In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

We attended the Bosch and Brueghel show and enjoyed the creativity as well as the venue in the quarry. We were able to walk around and appreciate the show from multiple vantage points. Great audio as well. A welcome break from the heat of the day.

Our cruise program included an excursion to see this. They called it "The Art Experience". Projected on the walls inside a huge limestone quarry were huge moving Chagall works, alternated with Alice in Wonderland images, all accompanied by classical music. Walking through the cool spaces, one can really experience and enter into the art and the music. Very lovely, not... More

One of my most amazing experinces. Audiovisual exhibition in the old bauxite mine. Using hundreds of projectors are projected works of various artists on the walls, floor and ceiling. The input is not limited in time.

This was unexpectedly awesome. To see the artwork of Bosch, Brueghel, and Arcimboldo displayed on the walls, ceiling, floors of an old stone quarry, surrounded by dramatic music was spectacular.

Other have said it's hard to describe and I am especially glad for this. There are so very few things in the world (and in life it seems sometimes) where phrases like "enchanting", "bedazzling" and "awe inspiring" truly fit without exaggeration. And often having too-high expectations does this. So for my potential high-expectation setting, I am sorry. I have never... More

Even if you do not have an interest in art go see this. It is inside old caves which were once a quarry. Expect it to be cool inside. Don't fret when you first arrive looking for a parking space near the entrance. Just be patient and keep going down the road. There are many choices. Watch at least one... More

We go there most years and although this year's artists were perhaps not quite as well known as some others in the past it was still a fantastic experience, complete with Led Zeppelin music at the end - nice for teenagers of the sixties/seventies! You can stay as long as you like and we had the complete show twice over... More

I visit here at least once every year. The magnificent colours of the paintings projected on the wall are breathtaking. The ambiance and the place itself makes it a fairytale experience that will stay with you. Do bring warm clothes as the quarries are very cold. A visit up to the village is worth the climb, quite touristic though. Many... More

If you have never been do go. The site is exceptional : century old quarries close to the village of les Baux. A very sophisticated and unique video and sound system project images on the rock walls. This year's painters Bosch,Breughel and Arcimboldo do'nt fit the system as well as the subject of the past years, So, having seen all... More

It's very hard to describe but absolutely worth a trip. We went with our 12 and 15 year olds, who loved it.
