The Japanese gardens offer a calm and peacefull setting for enjoying lunch or reading a book. The community centre offers tea ceremony or flower arranging or dance and cooking classes and sometimes Japanese films. There is a lovely little gift shop which offers hand made...More

We visited during the Hastings Park 1942 exhibit about one of the darker moments in Canadian history. After Canada declared war on Japan in 1942, more than 22,000 men, women and children of Japanese descent were rounded up as enemy aliens. Nearly one-third of them...More

Our school uses this beautiful building for our graduation. The wonderful, airy, high-ceilinged lobby with the incredible view to the Japanese garden makes us feel we've left the city entirely. Upstairs there is a great historical exhibit, and there are all kinds of classes going...More

Stopped into this museum while passing through the Kingsway area. Parking was very difficult on a Saturday as it's in a residential area. But the street is currently lined with barely opened cherry tree blossoms. Beautiful, light pink flowers! Head over soon to enjoy. The...More

One of the few well-organised cultural centres in BC. They have classes and events for one who wants to learn things Japanese. A tiny museum displays exhibitions of Japanese Canadian history.

this centre has such an authentic feel, featuring seasonal exhibits and cultural activities. There is also a restaurant attached to the Japanese retirement Home, which gives a taste of home made Japanese food, not only the sushi we have come to expect!

Very informative museum comparable to similar Japanese immigration museums in LA and San Jose. Excellent exhibits and interactive displays. The similarities between the Japanese immigration to Canada and the US were striking, e.g. the Redress Act RE: internment during WWII. The facilities are spacious, modern...More

If you have an interest in knowing how the Japanese community impacted BC's history, the Nikkei museum and cultural centre is worth the visit. In the past a lot of emphasis was placed on the how the Canadians of Japanese descent were treated in WWII....More

We visited this museum because we'd heard it had an interesting exhibit on Japanese Canadian internment during WWII. The exhibit is actually the hallways & walls of the upstairs offices of the Nikkei Place, a Cultural Centre for Japanese Canadians, where there are classes, social...More
