Had a day museum tripping and really glad I stopped here for some Maritime, First Nations, and world history. Although off-season, the lady overseeing this non-profit (donation only) museum, locked up to escort me into the lighthouse for a private viewing. The people in Port Alberni are very friendly and accommodating.

This is a small building and another building that was a lighthouse on the pier. Although small, they have a lot of interesting information packed inside if you take a few minutes to read and watch. The day we visited a very knowledgeable man took the time to expand on many of the exhibits which we really enjoyed. It's worth... More

We stopped by here on a Wednesday afternoon. The Centre was much smaller than we were expecting and the time needed to explore it was not much at all. Inside the lighthouse display area, there were three young women who appeared to be staff. They had various items laid out along the floor and were discussing with one another but... More

There are not a huge number of things to do in Port Alberni. The steam train and mill are great, and you really have to do that. The Lady Rose cruise is world class. Other attractions are mostly outdoor stuff. For inside things to do the choice is limited. This museum is small, but nicely done, with interesting exhibits in... More

Lots of history. Excellent display about the Tsunami in 1963. Learned about the history of lighthouses on the BC coast. Guides so informative and friendly.

We visited during a trip to Port Alberni in June. Well worth the visit to see and read the many interesting exhibits - at the time we were visiting there was some refurbishment work being completed but that did not affect our enjoyment.
