Took the train to the historic mill site. Loved the steam logger show. Talk about a cool volunteer opportunity for retired guys! Also took the milk tour, looked at old buildings and ate lunch there.

There is a train tour available from Port Alberni to the McLean Mill at different times of the year. As we had a car, we drove ourselves as it was just on the edge of town. Nice historic site with cabins and mill still being...More

The bridge condition prevented use of the steam train, but the ride was pleasant to the mill. Nice tourist centre and narrative for the mill grounds and a bit of shopping and food available. Just a pleasant way to discover more about BC forestry.

Since we visited out of season, all of the displays were not operational. We did however, tour the grounds and marveled at the technology from 1926

The mill offers a walk through history. Showing the major foundation of local forestry industry and engineering at the peak of the industrial revolution in this region. The sheer capacity and size and output capabilities of the mill in its hayday were staggering. This site...More

Concessions here are pretty midline ... I didn't find the place excessively expensive for a historic site.
