A walk or a ride

The trail is a great place to go for a walk or ride. No cars to deal with makes it safe and the areas it goes through makes for interesting and beautiful views.

Most of the trail is on an old rail bed, so it is mostly flat. There are some portions on the main roads, but most is secluded and beautifu. A great way into Victoria from the ferries. We travel it fairly often in good weather and it never disappoints. The treat at the end of the trail in Victoria is... More

Trail runs from The BC Ferry Terminal north of Sidney right down to Victoria and out to Sooke and beyond. A mixture of well-marked dirt trail and road. Trail follows an unused gas car railway line. Convenient stop halfway down for coffee or food.

this is one of my favourite bike rides in the Victoria area... very scenic and relaxing. I start at lochside park and ride to mt newton and back. this section gives a nice mix of pavement, hard packed dirt, and gravel trail

Thus is an easy trip through fabulous farm land and shaded lanes. Harvest Road Truck is at Litchell'sfor delicious food. There is a portopotti at Mitchell's as well

If you're looking for an easy hour (or so) ride that takes you past villages, seaside homes, restaurants, and forested lanes then the Lochside Trail is for you. It's well marked and (a bonus) has several rest stops that provide water and maps. My favourite rest stop is at Mt. Newton Xrd next to the McDonald's. The trail is not... More

The bike ride was fantastic! 46 km in total, but very easy, no ups and downs, fun to ride. The scenery around distracts from biking, you always look around whether it's a farm with funny piggies, blackberry bushes, fields and distant mountains. Once in Sidney, we enjoyed the most relaxing atmosphere: the views are fantastic, the food in local restaurants... More

You can park your car at the Michell Farm Stand (just off the highway on Island View Rd.) and ride the Lochside Trail to Mattick's Farm. Takes about an hour each way at a leisurely pace. The trail is flat and an easy ride for all ages. Roll past hobby farms along gravel and paved pathways. Stop at Mattick's Farm... More

We tried to rent bikes right at the beginning of the Galloping Goose trail, which connects you to lochside trail. But guess what??? Cycle treks bike store is CLOSED on holidays!!! Even in summer, the busy season. So we walked into town and rented at the sure thing, BC cycle. These guys are awesome! They had a HUGE crowd who... More

I use this trail every work day. It's even better since North Saanich repaved their portion and Central Saanich covered the stone path with asphalt. In BC many of the sidewalks are incorporated with the road (ei. no curbs but a white line).
