About
Sue-Ann Staff Estate Winery, home of Fancy Farm Girl wines, is the ultimate assemblage: a unique blend of the Staff family’s 125 years of grape growing experience (including two Grape King titles), and Sue-Ann’s internationally acclaimed wine making. Sue-Ann vinifies on the family’s 200-year-old estate, located on the brow of the Niagara Escarpment in Jordan, ON. Famous for her Icewines, you’ll also find award-winning Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Baco Noir and Sparklings. The winery is open year-round, hosting visitors from around the world for wine tastings, as well as spectacular weddings and private events. No visit to the winery is complete without a visit with Brix Bravo, Sue-Ann’s Bernese Mountain Dog, our mascot and Director of Barketing.

It's unreasonable to expect anything close to normal service standards during a pandemic but my experience was disappointing to say the least. I ordered curbside pickup and received neither a phone call or an e-mail to notify me my order was ready. There are many wineries in the region so I'll be trying those instead

As an attempt to get things rolling on a weekend after Thanksgiving this winery hosted a FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL. Saturday must have been dismal with the rain but the Sunday was a lovely sunny fall day.
At the entrance you were "offered" (....unfortunately charged $3 for one...$5 for two...and you got to KEEP THEM!!!!WOW!!) 4 oz. dollar store wine glasses. This was for use at the numerous booths from local wineries who were offering their fare. SADLY, these were $5 per glass and this was portioned at best as a half glass (2 oz.). If you do the math on this it is about $65 for a 750 ml. bottle of wine which you could get at the LCBO for $20. If you wanted some of the vintage Voignier it was $8 for a 2 oz portion. What a RIP-OFF!!!!!!!!!! This is a promotion and should have been MUCH cheaper.
Fortunately, the food trucks were reasonably priced which took a bit of the bite away. And I have no idea what this winery's wines are like and I won't be back.

Sue-Ann Staff makes some great wines, very tasty and emphasizes the terroir and excellent variety of styles. The property is gorgeous and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Sue-Ann is as approachable as can be, and a very down to earth winemaker.
The reason I would rate the winery a 3/5 is because of the insane prices being charged for wine by the glass. $16 for a 9oz pour of a baco noir that costs $20/bottle is ludicrous. $28 for their "gritstone" red blend would be understandable for a bottle....but not for a 9oz glass of red. The wine is good, but not that good! We won't return until the prices come back to planet earth.

Truly enjoyable experience. Great wines, and great staff. The setting amongst the rolling hills, is a perfect location to experience the assortment of wines presented.

How lovely for Sue Ann to have an open house in her home. We enjoyed a different wine in each room. The shortbread showdown was cute! The grilled cheese, delish. We purchased the corn relish.
We like our whites mostly but the foxy rose was great, purchased. Our fave white was Loved by Lu, a couple bottles bought. Great, fun time at the home. Thank you Sue!!!

I am definitely not a Chardonnay lover...however Sue-Ann's 2016 Mabel's V.C.R. blend has made me a believer that I can enjoy some Chardonnay...even in a blend. The Baco Noir was really nice again this year. I never walk out without a few bottles.
Service at the wine bar is excellent as always!
I was not very impressed however with the food purchased, at a very high price for what arrived on the plates, from St Catherine's N'Ata Costa. We ordered the antipasto and it was served on a paper plate with literally 3 extremely thin crostini...not nearly enough to accompany the other assorted items on the plate or for sharing. I went home and made a spectacular antipasto plate with less variety but a reasonable quantity of Salumi and cheese with olives for a very similar price point. Mine fed 5 adults with leftovers. The glass of wine ordered was a hit though!
Definitely go to have a fabulous tasting experience in Sue-Ann's kitchen, grab a seat outside and enjoy a glass of your choice in this nice winery.

Thank you so much for review 59Canadian. My apologies for taking a bit of time to respond but I did see this review early July and brought it to N'ata Cosa's attention straight way. They immediately made alteration to the platter to increase the amount of "goodies" on the platter ... plus changed the platter to a live edged board. Now ... since then ... we have taken over the outdoor garden dining and temporarily, this is all that we are serving. And ... yummo yum ... it is deeeelish (if I am allowed to say so myself!). Anyway ... thanks for the comments ... it solved an issue. And ... keep on enjoying the Baco and Chard!!

Really nice estate. Our wine tasting was more than what we thought it would be. We had Jake as our guide for the tasting. He explained in detail the wines they had and what you should smell and taste in each wine. It was really interesting. A must try if your in the area.

It's a bit hard to find but worth the hunt. It is a small winery but excellent fare. The Riesling is excellent. They have lots of seasonal events pairing with food and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable .

Thank you for your review. Yes ... we are not on the beaten path for our location however we laugh and say "Well, this is where great great great grandpa Robert Staff put us 200 years ago!" Glad you enjoyed the Rieslings, our cuisine and hospitality. We hope to see you back very soon!!!

Sue Ann Staff Winery is a real gem amongst wineries in this area. I have been back on several occasions. Here are my highlights:
1. The tasting room operates out of Sue Ann's kitchen.
2. After being greeted by Brix (the Burmese Mountain Dog) by the door (sometimes you greet him more than he greets you), you enter the kitchen where Sue Ann/members of her team greet you. If Sue Ann is not there, her highly capable team do a great job explaining and presenting the wines.
3. On my last visit Sue Ann took a lot of time to explain the wines and talk about what she was currently excited about. Clearly, a lot of passion goes into the entire process here.
4. They make different types of wines, but don't push the issue unnecessarily. If the weather prevents a particular wine during a year, they don't storm ahead and make it anyway.
5. The Fancy Farm Girl series offers an affordable, highly enjoyable selection of wines. Sue Ann does great Rieslings, rosés, and sparkling wines. If you can snag a bottle of Iridescence (sparkler) before it is gone, it is superb.
6. A few wines from Sue-Ann Staff are sold in the LCBO. However, there are lots of other great surprises made in smaller batches that are only found here.
7. The beautiful farm house also hosts special events from time to time. Call ahead to find out when the next winery event is happening.
Worth discovering!

Thank-you for your great commentary .... I will have to hire you to write for me as I am not sure I could have written about myself to graciously!!!
We love to pour what we do ... make lovely wines. I am always gratified when they resonate so well and people enjoy them ... plus the experience of being here.
We hope to see you often! Bring friends! And bring belly rubs for Brix!

When in the area I always pop in to pick up an excellent white wine and to see Brix.
Sue Ann has a beautiful estate and her passion is apparent in every bottle of wine.
