The harbour provides the perfect backdrop to your views around the city or it can be the feature of any beach visit along Tamaki Drive or any of the inner North Shore beaches. Often covered in yachts the harbour is always changing and the harbour bridge stands centre stage across it.

The harbour is one of Auckland's great treasures, dotted with islands, boats of all sorts, the harbour bridge, ferries

Seeing the harbor aboard a sail boat was a great experience. Unfortunately there were none of the famous Aukland gales blowing so we drifted more than sailed but it was still enjoyable!

because for all intents and purposes the same things apply. The Harbour is part of the gulf, where one ends and the other begins is beyond me! Oh and the map location showing next to this is totally wrong. It's in Auckland, not Wellington.

It is a beautiful harbor which has the luck to be sheltered (mostly) by the Hauraki Gulf. It's a shame there is not more transport on it, like there is in Sydney. You usually see someone sailing.

The harbour embraces Auckland City and is a place of beauty. I would commend an afternoon on the SailNZ Americas Cup yachts. Or just select one of the many restaurants or bars with vantage points and enjoy the ever changing view.

The Waitemta is great to cruise on, whether on the ferry to devonport or Waiheke Island, or on a launch or yacht if you are fortuneate enough to own one. We aren't, but then I am not a good sailor!!

If you are commuting or playing the Waitemata Harbour is one of Aucklands treasures (Not Wellington's as per the attached map!) One of the reasons Auckland is called the City of Sails. We viewed the departure of tis years Volvo Ocean Race from a grandstand position from the deck of a Fullers Ferry on the way to Waiheke Island -... More

I have lived in Auckland for over 30 years and I never tire of the view of the Waitemata Harbour as I cross the harbour bridge. Many boat trips are available to the islands offshore. The sandy beaches are plentiful with sailing, boating and swimming opportunities.

Take a day out on the harbor - you won't be disappointed. Many options from large sail yachts to ferries.
