Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

I can’t believe I had never heard of this place before researching my trip to Zhangye. What an AMAZING and beautiful place to visit. Since I don’t have a Chinese drivers license and haven’t been back to my home country in a few years, paying the 100¥ to drive an ATV for a bit was well worth it. Climbing all the stairs for the views is well worth it at the second to last stop (I think it was the first stop after the off-road adventure). Bring water bottles with you…I assumed I could buy some once inside and was wrong. Definitely worth a trip!

Arguably better than the rainbow mountains and much quieter! A great place to spend a few hours with incredible scenery! Great value for money, and worth paying extra for the buggy ride. The ticket included golf carts around the full park, a go on an army duck, camel ride (although I refuse to do this on principle) and walking scenic routes. Staff were all very jolly and helpful! Was lovely being somewhere so beautiful without many tourists!

Very scenic mountainous area, with flowing lines of earthly colours going through many of the mountains, hill, and ridges.

Practical info on how to get to BingGou and ZhangYe DanXia from Zhangye city centre:
There are regular buses from ZhangYe's West bus station to ZhangYe DanXia. The RMB10 bus takes you rigth at the western entrance to ZhangYe DanXia.

If you want to visit BingGou DanXia then do it before visiting ZhangYe DanXia. BingGou is smaller and different to ZhangYe DanXia. BingGou is about rock formations whilst ZhangYe is more about landforms, geometry and colours; colours steal the show.

In theory, there should be a bus linking BingGou and ZhangYe DanXia. In reality, there's no bus between the two attractions and the only transportation connecting the two was taxi. You can wait for more passengers to gather then share the RMB100 fare. Just make sure you agree 1.5-2 hours waiting time.

Entrance fees to each site is RMB40 (RMB20 concessions) plus RMB20 for park buses. These have to be the best value for money entrance fees in the whole of China.

The last bus back to ZhangYe is at 5.30pm and the one before that is at 4.30pm. The bus back to ZhangYe option won't work for those who want to take sunset photos at ZhangYe DanXia; taxi would be the only option and that would cost up to RMB200 per car.

Apart from Danxia National Geological Park (Rainbow Mountain), this is another value added advantage to drop by this sightseeing place which is nearby, to see the various rocks formation.

We visited this park the day after visiting Danxia. I felt that this was the better of the 2. A bit more rugged, more climbing, less riding a tour bus.
There are 2 main sections of this park that you walk through. A lot of stairs to climb but well worth it. Bring a hat for shade but be sure it's one that won't blow away as the wind can be strong at the top of the hills.
Arrive early and miss the crowds & the afternoon heat.
We caught a bus from the village just outside Danxia, it was a short ride, I believe we paid 6rmb a piece. We caught a bus back at the village just down the road from Binggou.

Smaller than the more famous Zhangye Geopark this area offers more shapes and fewer colors. A trolley will transport you from the entrance and it's easy to walk through the park on the stairs and pathways.
There are several signs in Mandarin and English explaining some rather weird and fanciful things you're supposedly able to see in the rocks.

Surprisingly there's very good free wifi coverage in the park.

This canyon is located about 40km west of the West entrance of the more famous Zhangye Geopark known for the colourful rocks, along highway S213. Entrance fees and shuttle bus are RMB40 and RMB20 respective. Allow 3 hours to see the place which look best after 3pm when the sunrays are at an angle.

They have a Chinese website www.zhangyedanxia.net with photos

It's a very different geological park than the Rainbow Mountains. The mountains are made into all kind of shapes due to changes in time. It seems to be pretty new in terms for opening to tourists. At this point it has two bus stops where you can walk around on man made trails and of course many stairs. It looks like they are building more stops/platforms for tourists.
We actually encountered some wild life in that park which is quite an experience traveling in China. They really were just some kind of Gerbils or mice kind of rodents. But really cute to watch.
It can be hot, so bring enough to drink. I don't think you can buy anything inside.
Entrance fee regular RMB 80, Senior discount RMB 40 with passport, 60 +
It works as in all Chinese parks, buy your ticket, scan your face and ticket and get on a bus.

I went here as part of my cycle trip through gansu. Completely different landscape to danxia(rainbow mountains) but definitely equally as impressive.

busses take you directly into the park. then you can walk on your own or with a group. easy walking/hiking. very very impressive landscape
