About
Tours consists of 3 elements, an up-close visit to the cliff top towers of the Woolnorth Wind Farm, Tasmania's first large scale wind farm and information centre. A visit to the historic Woolnorth property historic precinct, while driving through the farm lands of the Van Diemen’s Land Company(VDL Farms). Finally, a visit to the breathtaking kennaook/Cape Grim where we see the wonderful coastline, breathe the Cleanest Air in the World, and witness all the islands off the NW coast of Tasmania. 200 years of agricultural history and a focus on indigenous culture and connection to PLACE. Learn about modern, large scale farming, get your head blown off in the Roaring 40's, chance an up-close encounter with Tasmania native animals and access coastline that dates back 250,000,000 years. We are the only way to visit Cape Grim, part of privately owned land. Tours depart from 1665 Woolnorth Road, Woolnorth. Morning tea is included.

What a great way to spend a little time breathing the clean air of NW Tasmania and being educated and informed by the very knowledgeable Laura. Indeed we could have spent longer enjoying the experience. Our tour lasted just 2 hours and included 3 stops - at the wind farm, shearing shed, and Cape Grim. Good, but short. Admittedly though we were there on a reasonably benign day and possibly 2 hours is enough when the wind is howling. It did seem incongruous though that we visited a shearing shed which is not used as there are no sheep on Australia's largest dairy. Perhaps bio-security concerns prevent visiting one of the dairies on Woolnorth, but we felt that adding a dairy visit would enhance the Tour significantly.

We didn't know what to expect with this tour but we found it very interesting and informative. Tour guide Laura was excellent and very knowledgeable. There are a variety of facets covered including Wind Farms, Dairy farms, Meteorology, Aboriginal history as well and the settled farm history. If I was to make a small suggestion to make it worth the money , maybe access to tea/coffee at the woolshed. We had a bit of rain during th evisit but Laura worked around it so we didn't get too wet. A great way to access an area we wouldn't otherwise be able to visit.

We very much appreciated being able to do this tour, and see the northwest corner of Tasmania. We also appreciated learning about the history of this property, and the current operations and usage of the property. From our experience, there are a few things that future tourists need to be aware of. When we arrived at the meeting point for our tour, we were dismayed to find that while there is an information booth, there is no toilet. We had travelled from our accommodation in Stanley, and a toilet break would have been welcome before we embarked on our tour. Later we were able to access a toilet when the tour had morning tea. We were disappointed with the morning tea, as while there were a variety of teas available, plus quality instant coffee, there were only enough biscuits for 1 per person, and maybe 1 left over for someone who was quick to acquire it. The bikkies were very nice, and while we did not expect a sumptuous spread, maybe another flavour biscuit could be added, and perhaps a fruit platter would be a good addition to the morning tea. As a result of the sparse morning tea, by the time the tour finished, and we got back to the nearest town, Smithton, we were very hungry.

An excellent tour, Laura is a most knowledgeable and interesting guide, the location was absolutely stunning, delicious morning tea. We learnt about farming with ever so friendly cows, wind farms where we listened to the ‘music’ they made as they spin through the ait, and saw the most stunning coastline. Don’t miss this one!

It's not surprising to learn that Laura took this guide job when her mum called it quits.
If you are in the area this is a must do, Laura great insights not only into the windfarm, the longest original use land grant still in its original use. Along with the indigenous history, Cape Grim sure lived up to its name and the cliffs and surrounds-so rugged yet beautiful in their own way. Morning tea- homemade cookies. Even before the cookies my husband commented on how glad he was that he wasn't able to talk me out of doing the tour

Highly recommend this tour. Laura was a fantastic guide with facts and figures relevant to each part of the tour. Cape Grim and the cleanest air in the world was a highlight and we were lucky to experience a stunning winter day. Going to recommend this to anyone heading up to the North West coast.

Was expecting a tour of a working farm. Maybe it is but not for sheep. The major focus was the wind farm. Pity we had to pay good money for the only way to visit cape grim. The bias and propaganda from the operator Laura made it very uncomfortable for us
Would not do this again even if it was free!

Fantastic tour with Laura who was a very knowledgeable guide. We had a perfect sunny winter day, breathed the cleanest air in the world at Cape Grim and found the info on the massive wind farm, dairy farms and aborigine history so interesting. Don’t come all the way to the North West Coast without doing this tour. Amazing scenery. Thanks Laura, we loved your relaxed informative ‘style’.

Hi Margaret,
Our day tours are certainly suitable with small amounts of walking on reasonable ground.
The majority of the tour is conducted in our vehicles and allows for great viewing of our spectacular location.
We hope to see you both soon!
Cheers,
Laura
