About
Tours consists of 3 elements, an up-close visit to the cliff top towers of the Woolnorth Wind Farm, Tasmania's first large scale wind farm and information centre. A visit to the historic Woolnorth property homestead and historic precinct, while driving through the dairy lands of the Van Diemen’s Land Company(VDL Farms). Finally, a visit to the breathtaking Cape Grim where we see the wonderful coastline, breathe the Cleanest Air in the World, and witness all the islands off the NW coast of Tasmania. 193 years of agricultural history and a focus on indigenous culture and connection to PLACE. Learn about modern, large scale farming, get your head blown off in the Roaring 40's, chance an up-close encounter with Tasmania native animals and access coastline that dates back 250,000,000 years. We are the only way to visit Cape Grim, part of privately owned land. Tours depart from 1665 Woolnorth Road, Woolnorth. Morning tea is included. All COVID-19 precautions are in place.

Wow wow wow- we wanted to visit the Woolnorth Dairy and Wind Farm area rather than just getting to the locked access gates and see (very little) things from the distance. Fortunately we found Laura and her tour - on booking we thought wow $90 per person but we wanted to see it up close. The tour & Lauras commentary was exceptional and worth every $1 of the $90 - she even catered for gluten free (which gives her extra brownie points). She shared her exceptional knowledge and humour from start to finish.
We would highly recommend this tour and assure you, you will not regret the dollar outlay.
Thanks Laura for a great morning.

Where do I start….. Laura has been doing the tours for a long time and it clearly shows from geology, meteorology, anthropology there seems to be nothing she doesn’t know about the area. Laura doesn’t work off a script she tailors her narrative around questions asked and things that occur on the way. Every person who I spoke to who have done the tour couldn’t recommend highly enough – and neither can I. A must do!

We highly recommend this excellent tour which takes you to the Woolnorth windfarm on the north west coast and to Cape Grim & the Doughboys with views to the other islands off the north west tip of Tasmania. The coastline is awesome. Morning tea is provided in the old woodshed which has toilet facilities. Laura does an outstanding commentary throughout the tour on the history of the property, the windfarm and the wool and beef industries.

The comments were very interesting however for $90 it should have been half the price. The morning tea was instant coffee, rather than brewed and the biscuits were bought rather than home baked. In previous years it had been a much much better tour. I would not recommend it for the price, it was not value for money.

This was a bus tour as no access otherwise, but we were able to exit the bus at times, very informative host who could answer any questions. There was a short stop for morning tea between visiting the wind farm and then the Doughboys near Cape Grim. I had done this tour many years ago and had forgotten so much, it was worth doing again, thanks Laura.

I can so understand why entitled people can’t enter this place to wander “freely” at will, given that it is private property and the care and husbandry of the land is first rate. We really enjoyed this tour, Laura was an engaging, knowledgeable and empathic guide. There was not one question we asked that she couldn’t answer. The tour of the wind farm was an opportunity to get up close with great commentary on the sophisticated technology involved. We had a delicious morning tea in the large wool shed then on to Cape Grim with its black, volcanic sands at the base of the cliff. Driving back through the paddocks of the largest dairy enterprise in the Southern Hemisphere also great (33,000 dairy cows)! Happy to recommend.

What a great way to spend a little time breathing the clean air of NW Tasmania and being educated and informed by the very knowledgeable Laura. Indeed we could have spent longer enjoying the experience. Our tour lasted just 2 hours and included 3 stops - at the wind farm, shearing shed, and Cape Grim. Good, but short. Admittedly though we were there on a reasonably benign day and possibly 2 hours is enough when the wind is howling. It did seem incongruous though that we visited a shearing shed which is not used as there are no sheep on Australia's largest dairy. Perhaps bio-security concerns prevent visiting one of the dairies on Woolnorth, but we felt that adding a dairy visit would enhance the Tour significantly.

Despite it being a cold blistery day we had an amazing morning. Laura’s knowledge was such she could answer every question before it being asked. Historical, technical or environmental, she knows her stuff. Totally respectful of the Aboriginal spiritual history, she gave us an insight we haven’t experienced before. 100 % recommendable to anyone seriously interested in how Tassie evolved, developed and became to be the nation’s pearl.

Laura is an amazing guide. There is so much she knows about this part of the island. Her deep connection gave us new perspectives.
I had been a bit unsure before we booked this tour…but was encouraged by the comments from others. We absolutely encourage any unsure to join this tour.
The beauty and spirituality of temdudheker has to be experienced. Highly recommended. Thanks Laura.

Hi Margaret,
Our day tours are certainly suitable with small amounts of walking on reasonable ground.
The majority of the tour is conducted in our vehicles and allows for great viewing of our spectacular location.
We hope to see you both soon!
Cheers,
Laura
