About
Come fishing for Rainbow Trout or Atlantic Salmon, have a picnic & relax by the Stevenson's river. Only a 90min drive from Melbourne's CBD, we are a great day-trip or weekend getaway. Our friendly staff will set you up with fishing rods & bait. They will explain where everything is, how the farm works and give you a quick lesson on how to fish. Several streams with different sized Rainbow Trout & Atlantic Salmon. We also have a lightly stocked challenge lake - for the patient fisher. We clean your fish and pack in an esky on ice. You can then take your fish home for dinner or eat here for lunch. BBQ & picnic facilities are available at the farm. Established in 1958, we are proud to produce sustainable, healthy & delicious fresh fish. Our gravity fed water supply originates from the snowfields of Lake Mountain before cascading down Stevensons Falls and through its streams providing the perfect place to grow a clean, natural food.

Fun day out
Jan. 2021 • Family
Several ponds to choose from ranging in difficulty depending on species and size and sizes
We took four kids ranging from 3-9 year old. Each caught a trout. We didn’t want them fishing after they caught one because you need to pay for what you catch. We spent about 2 hours there which was enough. Cost us 60 bucks in total (we had enough fish for a young family of 6). Good way to entertain the kids if your in the area.

Loads of fun!

We went there to fish for our dinner and that's exactly what we did. Staff are friendly and help you if you ask. The fish literally jumped onto the hooks....the salmon were too well fed so we stuck to the trout. We caught 5 within 20 minutes. Had a great laugh and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Didn't even get there.......
Jan. 2021
Just saw that you now have to pay $7.50 to $9.50 for each visitor to even get in and throw a line to catch your own fish and on top of that pay about $24/kg trout. We were planning to go there an catch some trout for the barby at home.

With the recent changes that means $70 admission fee for two families (five adults and three kids) and another say $100 for the fish that we catch. That is a very expensive DIY-Catch for 4-5 trouts. Guess Buxton tourism has gone a (fair) bit over the top.

Very disappointed to see business greed taking over what (until just a few years ago) always was a good and pleasurable experience at this trout farm. They won't see me there anymore and not recommending it to anyone either.

fun day out with the kids
Sep. 2019 • Friends
Discovered the place by accident on our way back from lake Eildon. Had a fantastic time with 4 children ranging in age from 9 years old to 3years old. The kids more fish than the 4 adults and had a great day which we topped off by using the BBQ and having a lovely afternoon lunch. The team were very helpful with tips and cleaned the fish wonderfully. They also stocked foil for our impromptu BbQ fish love. Great days entertainment and can't wait to go back.

Staff got the type of fish wrong
Jun. 2020
Staff had a hard time catching the salmon we wanted. And even though we wanted a fresh salmon and a salted trout, we ended up with two trouts although the price we paid we very different. Always check the package is the lesson learnt. And really how could they have gotten it wrong?!

Drive by activity

Partner and I drove to the Trout and Salmon farm for some fish. Was very quiet on Friday and had the place to ourselves. There's 4 ponds and some smaller ponds on higher ground where they breed the trout and salmon. There's also some bbq grills and some condiments plus seating if you're eager to eat the fish straight away.

We were given a cup of feed and some bait, as well as a set of fishing rods, buckets and nets for our use.

We both never fish so it's a fun place to go if you don't have much experience. Caught 8 fish in total and had them gutted and filleted to share with family.

The manager was very helpful and was great to chat with her about aquaculture and management of the site. Highly recommended spot if you're passing by.

Great time and easy to catch
Sep. 2019
The kids (and adults) had a great time here. We caught Salmon and Trout. They give you rods, nets, buckets, bait and food for the fish. You pay for what you catch. You can pay a bit more to get it fully filleted. They clean and gut the fish and bag it on ice for you to take home. They guys were really friendly. Would come back here.

The Kids Loved It!!!!
If you have a weekend spare and you have nothing to do i suggest you drive out to Buxton and visit the trout farm.

We have been here numerous tines and the kids always have a ball..

They have excellent facilities where you can cook what you catch or you can take your fish home.. The fish are also tasty and are reasonably priced.

Also whilst in Buxton i suggest you have tbe famous Buxton burger.
