About
Come fishing for Rainbow Trout or Atlantic Salmon, have a picnic & relax by the Stevenson's river. Only a 90min drive from Melbourne's CBD, we are a great day-trip or weekend getaway. Our friendly staff will set you up with fishing rods & bait. They will explain where everything is, how the farm works and give you a quick lesson on how to fish. Several streams with different sized Rainbow Trout & Atlantic Salmon. We also have a lightly stocked challenge lake - for the patient fisher. We clean your fish and pack in an esky on ice. You can then take your fish home for dinner or eat here for lunch. BBQ & picnic facilities are available at the farm. Established in 1958, we are proud to produce sustainable, healthy & delicious fresh fish. Our gravity fed water supply originates from the snowfields of Lake Mountain before cascading down Stevensons Falls and through its streams providing the perfect place to grow a clean, natural food.

Staff had a hard time catching the salmon we wanted. And even though we wanted a fresh salmon and a salted trout, we ended up with two trouts although the price we paid we very different. Always check the package is the lesson learnt. And really how could they have gotten it wrong?!

We have visited a few trout farms in our travels and this one stacks up well in comparison. Kids had great fun catching trout. The salmon were very elusive and we couldn’t catch any. Well worth paying the $5 per fish to get them filleted and placed in a fish farm branded insulated freezer bag.

Went for a family day out but every fish you catch you have to purchase! Other fish farms you can throw them back. For a family that one fish would be more than enough it's an expensive day out.

Hi Michelle,
Sorry you didn't have a good time at the farm. I would like to politely point out that you do have to pay for all the fish you catch at other trout farms, the only catch & release farms charge a much higher entry fee to cover the cost of the fish that die from being thrown back. This is exactly the reason why we are not a catch and release farm.
We believe that it is cruel to continually catch and hurt the fish and throw them back. It also damages the fish for other customers. We understand that the price of fish can add up, which is why we have different sized ponds with the size and price per kilo clearly printed on them. An average plate size trout cost $6 - $8.

we've just returned from a day trip to the buxton trout and salmon farm...and wow, no regrets! driving from a southeastern suburb, we took the maroondah highway (B360) which brought us through the yarra ranges national park. here you will drive through the Black Spur (overwhelmed by majestic mountain ash trees!) and before you know it, you're at the trout farm, where everything you need to fish is provided (rods - even for kids, bait, pail). there are different ponds in the open air (set in a pleasant garden setting, lots of ducks) for trout and salmon, with signs so that you know exactly what size of fish to expect. trout is priced at $14.90/kg, while salmon is $24/kg. plenty of picnic tables amongst the ponds. even BBQs are provided onsite. fish is cleaned and packed with no extra charge. ice bags can be purchased at $5 each. overall, good fun for the whole family!

our host gave a great talk about their repositioning since the 2009 fires and staff quickly prepared our freshly caught trout to take to the Buxton a hotel four our lunch. Nothing fresher than catching your own.

Took my wife and son to fish.Great staff running the place.Very friendly and helpful.Explained before we went in that what you catch must be paid for and no throwing back what you catch. very we'll laid out once you get in with several ponds telling you what is in each pond.My son caught 4 salmon but only landed two as one broke the hook and the other slipped off the hook one on land and wiggled back in to the pond. The friendly staff cleaned and filleted both fish. We stayed and had a picnic next to the ponds. All up it was a great day out.

Great expereince. Very friendly helpful staff, unlike the other local trout and salmon farm - the Marysville Trout and Salmon Farm.

A great set up with a number of ponds stocking selective size fish, plenty of grass area and picnic tables so you can have a picnic lunch if you wish with a BBQ onsite. Fishing rods and bait provided if you wish and you pay for what you catch. They can also clean your fish for you. They also sell smoked fish that we mainly go there for. Friendly staff and a nice relaxing atmosphere great for couples and families well worth a visit.

My family had been here several times. We come here for fresh trout and salmon. Pricing is comparable to ordinary fish market. But it's great to know the fish you get is as fresh as it gets.
We would normally bring a picnic basket with everything we need including seasoning and utensils. The farm provide the BBQ facility. We give the kids a quota of how many fish to catch each. Like, X1 for us to eat for lunch, X2 to take home and X2 for grandparents back in Melbourne. This way we do not end up with grumpy kids wanting to fish more than what we would like to take. We bring our own ice and esky. But they also sell some there.
We would normally go to the farm as a lunch break before or after sight seeing around the area for other spots and wineries. Staff are always kind and friendly. Their smoked trouts are also really beatiful.
