- JK4 contributionsGreat experience with convenience.Charming place, picturesque mountain views. We trekked on our own by following Google Map, from our hotel to look for the so-called Instagram able Pong Yeang Berry Windchill Cafe. Google Map took us thru the farms with stunning views! After a 3-hr trek, we reached the cafe and the food did not disappoint. Must order the Avocado with Honey Lime Shake. You can actually book shared ac rides form Chiang Mai to Mon Jam and back. They pick up to the place you are staying in Mon Jam from near Worora Market, Chiang Mai. They charge THB 150 per person one way (Taxi/Songthaew takes THB 600 minimum and you can't book per head). This information is available mostly in Thai. Hope it helps.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 November 2023
- Stanley KSingapore, Singapore77 contributionsMost Enjoyable Trip To Mon JamCame to Mon Jam in December for the cold weather. From Singapore, we flew to Bangkok for 3 days and then we took the train to Chiang Mai. Stayed the night in Chiang Mai and then to a shared van to Mon Jam. Stayed at Memory Camp in a tent. Booked a tour via a local taxi and ended up meeting Prasit, a local. He took us in his MG car and was the most helpful, honest, courteous, kind tour guide cum driver. He is very knowledgeable and so patient. Because if the first day half day tour, we booked him for the second day on a full day tour to see the Karen and Hmong tribes, flower gardens cum fruit garden, Phoenix adventure park and many more. He recommended very good Street non tourist food shops. When I ran out of cash, he is fine to have his fees transferred. I truly recommend him as a tour guide for Chiang Mai and Mon Jam. - Patty Kanyaporn390 contributionsBreathtaking Blooms and Mountain ViewsThe most striking aspect of Mon Jam is undoubtedly the view. Perched atop the mountain, stay among the flower fields overlooking a breathtaking panorama that stretches for miles. Getting to the top is an experience in itself. As it was too steep to drive directly to the flower fields. So we took a short ride in a service truck for a small fee (around 100 THB). There are several flower fields to choose from so do some research before visiting.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 March 2024

I've seen pictures of Mon Jam but didn't quite know which specific places to visit in the area, and so just left it to my guide and driver to bring me to places of interest. He brought me to a government run agro park, which was really a collection of small vegetable and flower farms. While the farms themselves were nothing extraordinary, the view was. Just clear blue skies and mountains of green, it was nothing short of breathtaking. Walking around, some of the farms and cafes ask for a modest entrance fee, which I obliged. They grew beautiful flowers, provided fantastic views, and were great photo ops. Many visitors simply ordered coffee, sat down, and enjoyed the view. It was a morning spent just walking around, with nothing in mind, but yet one of the most fulfilling.

The views are fantastic but many of the terraces are now covered with camping and glamping areas so that some of it now resembles a space station on a faraway planet. However, it's very popular particularly with Thai tourists but I can't help feeling that the local environment has been adversely affected by presumably an easier way of making money for the landowners.
It's a great drive getting there with magnificent views of the mountainous countryside. We thought the best features were the local market and some flower fields. The market sold local fruit and vegetables with some of the finest avocados we have tasted. Persimmons, oranges and pomegranates also were available. Cheap and very tasty!
One other feature we had mixed feelings about were the children dressed in the local hill tribe clothes but really only there to get money from tourists by having there photographs taken. A number of them didn't look particularly happy and probably wanted to be doing other things than posing with some tourist.
Would we go again?...probably not.

North of Thailand in November, the weather was very good, a little cold.
The way to Moncham is on the hill and crooked, reccommend to go with good van or car. When I reached, there wre a hundred of resort and tents on the hills, lot of cars and tourists. May be it's good for young people to have meeting group. The hills Moncham still very nice but we have to accept a hundred of tents too. The best thing of this trip was coffee, even a small resort but they had good fresh espresso.

Charming of Mon Jam is completely gone. Full of gramping resort, with not reasonable high price, pork-pan menu, and a lot of signs.
Not a peaceful place at all, especially during burning season, the whole mountain range covered and polluted by smoke.

Mon Jam is a stunning place. Great view, great nature.
Having said that, I would really see this more as a place to go for food, especially lunch. The food is very good quality and price appropriately for the stunning views you get (food:100-200Baht, drinks: 30Baht). Best is to leave Chiang Mai at around 11:30 to get to Mon Jam at 1pm. Then have a bit of a walk and get some great lunch.
Some people say that they rode a motorbike to get to Mon Jam. I have to say: it is quite a steep ride and nothing really for the unexperienced. I got a red taxi/bus and paid 800Bath for the tour there and back which took about 4h altogether (I'm a pretty bad negotiator so I guess you should get this ride for 700Bath ^^).
If you miss this you haven't really been to Chiang Mai :)

It's a relaxing ride through a thick forest combined with a little walk but you will be rewarded with a nice view and a flower garden. Another bonus is the nearby market where Hill-tribe people sell fruits, vegetables and some handicrafts for a very reasonable price. We could not resist!

Is there a hotel or resort on top of Mon Jam to stay the night?
Written 4 December 2016
Mon Muan Resort is the name of a beautiful not far from Mon Jam. There are only 10 units available. You MUST book in advance.

We are planning on going on a Sunday. Doe anyone know if they are open on Sunday's?
Written 27 September 2016
Mon Jam is really just an overlook spot, but there are a couple places to eat and get snacks. Generally in Thailand everything is open on Sundays.

Hello All,
My Wife and I are visiting Chiang Mai for a few days as part of our Thailand honeymoon in August, I really like the idea of popping up to Mon Jam during our stay - My question is this;
1. Has anyone been there in August? if so is it still a vibrant as the reviews suggest it is at other times.
2. Getting up there, We both like some freedom when we travel and are considering hiring a scooter for the day. would this be advisable for this journey/in general?
Thank you for taking the time to read
Brad
Written 23 March 2015
I've not been there in August but agree with the other reviewer that it could be in the clouds and if so there'll be not much of a view. As for getting there, wouldn't advise scooter as it can get pretty steep. Unless the scooter is pretty powerful which I doubt - well, it is CM if you know what I mean. Plus you'll probably take a much longer time.

May I know any entrance fee to Mon Jam or need any booking? Thanks
Written 21 January 2015
There is no entrance fee. If you would like to stay overnight you will need to book a tent in advance. The restaurant, the camping, and the garden are own by the same landlord.
If you are not in the rush, I would recommend to spend one night there, the scenery (sun rise/sun set/city light overlook) is fantastic at the private camping ground.
I made my reservation directly by phone..
Hope it's help.
