We love this scenic, golden sandy beach and visit it regularly when here from the UK. On this occasion we were entertained by the life guards who got their buggy stuck in the sand - along came the rescue vehicle and you’ve guessed it - yes, that got stuck in the sand as well - along came another buggy and I thought no! This one actually kept a short distance. It must have taken 40 minutes to get free and I think that was accelerated by 2 knowledgeable, elderly gentlemen. Anyway, back to watching the beach volleyball and surfers.

As the beach rolls out to Papamoa from Mount Maunganui with the Pacific Ocean lapping on your feet, you will feel at peace with the world.
I am
Lucky enough to live here.
The beach is simply idyllic all year round and I never tire of it.
The facilities nearby are excellent - the Good Home Gastro pub is excellent albeit a bit pricey, but if you fancy a picnic visit the “Fresh Choice” supermarket opposite - there is also a cafe called Pearl kitchen 200yards from both of these facilities.

What a pretty place, we came by cruise ship and walked easily to the beach front. There are lots of places to eat and drink along the waterfront. Also went to the hot pools another lovely venue at the Mount. On the beach lots of people swimming and one man flying with the parashute and we later saw him off the Mount catching the wind as we sailed away.

Walked in and before we could even talk a very brash man said “you need to leave the table by 5” it was 3.45pm.
No hello, no welcome, no hi guys we have a booking at 5pm so we can offer you a table to then.
He needs retraining.
I said “that’s fine we are just wanting coffee and muffins”
He said “good you need to be out by 5”. Luckily a young waitress (pretty Indian girl) served us and was lovely. The nice coffee and muffin was appreciated but lack of service and rudeness ruined it for us.

You don't want to visit this place is beautiful beaches there is amazing restaurants with food from every country in the world there is free parking there is a park for skateboarding and there is ample beautiful sunshine don't go there.
I am retiring shortly to Mount Maunganui and really wish to keep the rates the same and ensure it doesn't become overcrowded like most other places in New Zealand. 20 minutes to travel from Papamoa to Judea is just the right amount of time. Any longer and it will become an issue for me.

The main beach at Mount Maunganui is great for surfing and experienced swimmers. There are also a lot of weekend events to catch such as surf life saving competitions and sand beach Volleyball. However, take note that the main beach drops in depth quickly as you enter the water. This scooping effect can create a pull and dump situation with the waves. Can be quite scary for young kids or inexperienced ocean swimmers.
My advice for a calmer wading experience is just a few minutes further down the coast where the entry is more gradual. Keep in mind there are still the potential for rip tides (anywhere) but it is a much more flat and gradual entry into the ocean. If you have kids with boogie boards make sure they have fins or stay in the very shallow areas. When we lived here I saw too many little ones get sucked out deep while floating on their boards. While the rips here are generally not as extreme as New Zealand's West Coast, they do exist even at the Mount.
From the main beach the nearby rock peninsula, Leisure Island, has a neat out and back trail with some blowholes and local folks fishing. Nice for a quick stroll with a smoothie!

A lovely long sandy beach with lots of benches along the path. There are lots of shops close by too, with Ice creams and food vendors along the path.. The only downside is that parking is hard as it gets very busy. A great family beach and good for body boarding too.

I was staying right on Mt Maunganui Beach with a view over to the Mount and walking along this beach for a few days was a highlight. Great views, awesome beach with some waves as well which was awesome. If you like your beach walks then this beach has it. Even the walk along the promenade is worth it.

The Mount as it’s known is a excellent place to visit, the beach is amazing, miles to walk along and enjoy, lots of excellent places to eat and if you have the time climb the Mount itself, takes about a hour but the view from the top is great. Plenty of accommodation of all types we stayed in a Airbnb. The weather was good too even though it’s the start of autumn!.

La rencontre avec des caboclos, sans oublier les indiens Marituba, Munduruku, et borari;

We do not arrive in Singapore until 1 am on Jan. 1st, 2015......do we book the room for 12/31 as well?
Written 20 February 2015
Depends on the accomodation you are booking as the Mount has several types... Beach houses/ motels/ bed and breakfast... You would have to check with the establishment. If your flight lands in auckland you would take 3 hours after airport to reach Mount Maunganui.
