Wonderful recent visit to this fine park. Beautiful setting, great facilities for young and old. Terrific children’s playground, coffee shop, facilities, walkways etc. always plenty of people here but never crowded. One of the best council parks I have ever seen!

Speers Point Park is so beautiful... and is right on the shores of wonderful Lake Macquarie! The park has fantastic amenities (tables, seats [many tables/seats with roof-over structures], a large roof-over structure with a concrete floor so that the park can still be enjoyed even if it’s raining, a stage/rotunda for performers (eg. musicians), many beautiful trees, a tremendous kids playground area (fully fenced for kids’ protection), wide paved pathways, and of course wide expanses of grass. Great for picnics or for just meandering through for a pleasant lakeside walk or jog! The park is a credit to Lake Macquarie Council which maintains this terrific community facility. It’s a great place for the holding of special events (such as food & wine festivals, music festivals, markets, & NYE and Australia Day fireworks), and for families to hold private get-togethers. There’s plenty of paved/asphalt car parking available immediately adjacent to the park.
There’s even a coffee shop/cafe there ...
so parents can relax over a coffee while their kids play in the secured playground area near the coffee shop.

Went to this park for the first time on the weekend. Possibly one of the best parks we've been to. So much to see and do. Excellent for kids of all ages. Lots of room to move and plenty of parking provided you don't leave it too late. The walk along the foreshore is just beautiful with so many enjoying themselves either by cycling or taking their beloved pets for some exercise or just plain walking and drinking in the fantastic views and serenity. Definitely our favourite park!!

We live in the Lake Macquarie area but have travelled extensively and I rate this park as one the best children's playgrounds I have seen. The surroundings are beautiful, with plenty of space for picnics or simply for children to run. There is a coffee shop for parents to buy snacks for the chidren or coffee for themselves. The Speers Point swimming pool is located close to the childrens' recreation area and beautiful Lake Macquarie provides the backdrop for all the activities. We have taken all our grandchildren to this park and we all enjoy the experience. An added bonus is the fact that it is possible to entertain the children entirely free of cost .

One of the best children's playgrounds I've seen in NSW is in Lake Macquarie (2hrs north of Sydney & 20 minutes south of Newcastle). It was completed in 2008 and has won many awards. But the best judge of the park is the kids. Kids from as soon as they can walk to teenagers can enjoy the park.
It has as water play area, jungle climbing castle, musical makers and sand pits for younger kids on one area. The next more sand pit and climbing frames plus a huge twisty slide and climbing net that is most popular with older kids.
The flying fox is a big favourate for all aged kids and the bike track complete with stop signs a must for teaching kids how to ride safely.
BBQs, toilets and cafe facility also next to complex. Public swimming pool only a short walk away.

A great place to take the family and have a picnic. Just be sure to keep an eye on your kids as there are a lot of nooks and crannies where either they can get lost or strangers could approach them.

After looking for somewhere in the middle of all our family commuting - we settler on Speers Point Park. What a choice!! There are two areas an open lakeside parklands with plenty of huts for families to setup AND a gated kids play/picnic area. This gated area is massive, easily 2 football fields in size with a Cafe, kids play areas, paths for bikes and scooters, BBQs and plenty of shaded spots for families to setup under. The gates means you can literally let the kids run free with little worry... Lots of safe play equipment and slides that will make the kids go wow!! There are also clean toilets with change tables for infants. Top it of with plenty of free parking and this place is perfect for a family picnic.

We often go to Newcastle from Melbourne for holiday's to visit family and friends. We never let those opportunities go by without a visit to the amazing Spears Point Park. When I have posted pictures of this park on Face Book, friends in Melbourne all want to know where the park is, as nothing here compares! If you find yourself on a family holiday in the Newcastle region, make the trip, it's worth it.

I took the grandchildren to the park for the afternoon. Its a great place for them to learn to ride a bike and interact with other children. The kids bike track is well laid out and has undercover seating. We took our own chairs and set up in the shade of the trees. A lovely afternoon.

Absolutely, Speeds Point Park is right on Lake Macquarie, largest saltwater lake in Southern Hemisphere...HEAPS of fishing around lake edge. Public pool is on edge of park on main road. You can't miss it. You can also swim in the lake ....

Hi. Just wondering if there are lights at the park at night and what time does the park close?
Thank you very much
Written 21 August 2017
We have been at night. There is no lighting in the park itself but if the sporting teams are playing in the fields next to the park it does give you some light.

My son is cruising and crawling but not walking yet. Would there be things for him to do at this park? Or should I wait until he's a bit older?
Thanks!
