A good place to understand the culture of Sri Lanka’s indigenous people. There’s a museum inside the village which gives a brief understanding of the evolution of these people. You can witness their famous cultural kiri koraha dance as well. You might get a chance to meet veddha chief as well at his home.
However these people are now modernized and you don’t get to experience real veddha life here now. They will try to rip you off by selling various cheap quality items. Specially the bee honey they sell is not real bee honey. Don’t get caught.
It’s good to get some understanding but not a must visit in mahiyanganaya area.

You can easily travel this place from Mahiyanganaya town, only about 20min drive. There is a museum which was built recently and having everything what we need to know about Sri Lankan native people, their life style, history and everything else. Other than that you can meet current leader of this natives. There are couple of things to buy here. Bows with arrows, hunny bottles, some herbs, hand made jewelleries by natural things and some hand made nice ornaments. Good place to visit.

It's a complete disaster. There were authentic experience with the expected real Veddha culture. It was just extortion of tourists' money. just a simple advice. Don't go. Don't encourage cheating, using the name of Veddha Village and Veddha people. Nothing to see, even the museum is very primitive. No need to take photo with the village chief. Who believes it's real Veddha traditional dance?

Awful, awful, awful
Meet the chief, in our case the son, greeted with a smile as he counts the cash. For 11 we paid 5000RS, that's a lot
Walked through a paddy fields by a man wearing a sarong. 2 people in the circle. The first sings a lullaby pretending an arrow is a baby, maybe 4 minutes. We shoot a few arrows and 2 in sarongs stalk an animal maybe 2 minutes. Now for the dance, we've heard big things about this. The same 2 dance about a bit for 4 minutes. After that they roll out some terrible souvenirs and try to sell them
Next stop, another enclave, where fire eaters are. We didn't bother as guess what they want more money
Next stop the centre and the museum, small thing, guess what 500RS, we don't bother and leave.
IT"S DREADFUL. DO NOT GO. IN 50 YEARS OF TRAVEL THIS IS THE MOST CONTRIVED AWFUL THING I HAVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE TO TAKE A GROUP TO

Total commercialization of a local aborigines tribe. To make it worse the "audience with the king" is a totally awkward situation where tourists sit uncomfortably in front of the un-interested king of the tribe, asked multiple times if we would like to take a photo with him, and made to feel as though we should also pay for this honor. The translator seemed like a total charlatan, everything he told us about himself sounded like it was made up, and honestly, he was disgusting and pushy.
Try to avoid this if you can. Such a shame in such a genuine town.

2018 Christmas day we visited here after the visit to Victoria Dam & Resovior. It wasa around 10 when we get there and it was almost crowded. From Kandy to Mahiyanganaya Dambana village isn't very hard to find. After you pass Mahiyanganaya town you have to turn to Padiyatalawa road and for about 20-30mnts you have to drive and there will be a board indicates the place on left. This place was interesting and lot to learn. We had a chance to watch an ancient dance but we had to give some amount to satisfy them. and then they bless you with a branch from a particular tree. (we gave 100/= you can decide the amount) There was a large museum which exhibits how they generated through years, the household items they used, their weapons, fossils almost everything about their lives. It was actually interesting. But it is strictly prohibited to take photographs inside the museum. You have to pay a little amount to enter but it's worth it. you get the chance to buy some real honey, and ornaments made of Ebony in the village. And you will get the chance to see their cultivated lands. We met the leader of the village who is a well know person named "Uru warige Thisahami" If you're a Sri Lankan I think you must visit this place.

We travelled from Kandy a trip which took us almost 3 hours although it's only 95km. Phenomenal scenery en route as you climb up the lush hillside and down the other side with valleys, rivers, streams and towns en route. Avoid the touts as you get closer to the Veddhas territory who offer to guide you. Just follow the signs to the parking point where you will be met. I had some misgivings about the trip (gawping at the Veddhas as if they were specimens from a fairground) but in fact they were happy to see us and show us their lifestyle. Thought provoking because they have probably lost the battle to retain their original way of life and now as their children go to school they are having to adapt to the 21st century. There is a very informative museum - probably rather too much to read. We were taken to meet the son of the chief who is really animated and informative through an interpreter. We were given a demonstration of how they make fire, their tribal dances and hunting moves as well as a lesson with a bow and arrow. We finally had an uncomfortable audience with the chief which was concluded when money passed hands! There is a photo of this chief who apparently was a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and who they told us won the top prize! They tried to sell us small ivory and ebony objects but we demurred. Before we left they expected more money but we declined as we had given more than expected already. Still a memorable experience and a great day out.
