- Ray MurphySwindon, United Kingdom119 contributionsMagical experienceA truly incredible place. It’s expensive but you do get a meal included and it’s open from 10am to 10pm. Really cool experience sitting in the spas at night. Feels a touch unsafe in parts as there are loads of rocks in the pools/rivers which you can’t really see at night. A few more lights would be helpful. Bring water shoes as well!Dear Raymanthe3rd, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent visit. We're thrilled to hear that you had a truly incredible experience at our place. Your insights about the evening ambiance and the unique sensation of sitting in the hot springs at night are greatly appreciated. We've taken note of your suggestions regarding safety concerns, and we understand the importance of visibility in the pools and rivers, especially during the evening. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another magical experience, addressing these considerations to ensure an even more enjoyable visit. - A Tico Traveler3 contributionsTabacon is a piece of thermal heaven on EarthGetting to the front desk and being welcoming by Bryan with a great service proving us a fresh-towel and a drink to start an unforgettable time. The staff at the lockers area is amazing and so kind. Next step, piña colada at the Aguardiente Wet Bar, something not to miss! Jonnathan and Dennis were rocking by giving great options for having lunch, the chicken nachos with the lemon taste are perfect. Get in touch with the thermal river by walking on the side of a lot of pools and feeling the vibration of the Arenal Volcano reflected in the beautiful grounds and natural spaces that Tabacon Resort offers. - Logan S33 contributionsLike something from a dream.Tabacon Hot Spring’s grounds were breathtakingly beautiful. There was a nice variety of pools and springs that offered seclusion and stunning views. The staff were wonderful and friendly. The food and drinks were delicious. I would note that you should temper your expectations of “hot” when coming to the springs though. I would describe the water as pleasantly warm. Not at all disappointing, just don’t think you’re going to be experiencing hot tub level temperatures. This was my wife’s favorite part of our visit to Costa Rica.Dear Logan S, We are pleased to read your enchanting review and thrilled to have been a part of your Costa Rican experience! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It warms our hearts to hear that Tabacon's grounds left you with awe. We take great pride in offering a variety of pools and springs that provide seclusion and showcase the stunning beauty surrounding us. - Bo CWashington DC, District of Columbia7 contributionsBeautiful, natural hot springsAbsolutely amazing experience. The natural hot springs, lush vegetation, and elaborate landscaping made this a highlight of our trip to La Fortuna. The pictures don’t do it justice. The hot springs weren’t quite as warm as some others, but I imagine that’s because that is the natural temperature of the water. The hot pools were about 100 degrees F (38 C). But the other springs aren’t as natural and beautiful as this one. If you have multiple nights in La Fortuna, I recommend going here one night and then to another (less expensive) one that has hotter water on another night so you can get the best of both worlds.Dear Bo C, Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful experience with us! We are delighted to hear that you found our natural hot springs, lush vegetation, and elaborate landscaping to be a highlight of your trip to La Fortuna. We appreciate your understanding of the natural temperature of the water and are thrilled that you found the setting to be so beautiful and unique. Your comment about the pictures not doing it justice is music to our ears, as we strive to provide an experience that goes beyond what can be captured in images. It's great to know that you enjoyed the hot pools, even if they were slightly cooler than others you've encountered. Your recommendation to visit us one night and explore another location with hotter water on a different night is a fantastic idea for those looking to experience the best of both worlds. We truly value your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another memorable visit in the future. - Mike PPoughkeepsie, New York55 contributionsAmazing & Beautiful! We chose to visit Tabacon out of the many possibilities of hot springs and we are glad that we did! The place is beautiful!! Getting the day pass was great as we did not have to reserve a specific time. We spent about 5 hours there and it was very relaxing. There are many pools and when we were there it never felt crowded. I thought that the price was worth the experience, but the drinks were pricy! About $19 for a drink. But, I guess that is to be expected at a place like this. Overall, I would highly recommend a stop here.Dear Chefmikepok, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you found Tabacon amazing and beautiful, and we appreciate your decision to visit us among the many options for hot springs. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed the flexibility of the day pass, allowing you to explore the various pools at your own pace. We're glad you had a relaxing five hours, and we're delighted that even during your visit, the ambiance never felt crowded. We appreciate your understanding regarding the pricing of drinks. While we strive to provide a premium experience, we'll certainly consider your feedback as we review our offerings. - eaglelake20Crown Point, New York74 contributionsIncredible Experience in a Place of Great BeautyAs we were not staying at the Tabacon Resort, my daughter and I first got a day pass to the hot springs and then booked a couple of treatments each at the spa. We got there at 11am. When we checked in, we made a lunch reservation at their restaurant and are so glad we did. The food and drinks were absolutely outstanding. We then changed into our bathing suits in the locker room and from there explored the hot springs, which cascade in small rivers over shallow waterfalls down the hillside through the rainforest. It is impossible to describe how beautiful and restful it was, as there are so many small pools and basins that you can go into, all of which are marked with the temperature of the water. The spa itself is absolutely luxurious. You are treated like royalty by all of the staff. We had our treatments done side-by-side by therapists who were clearly masters, with the sounds of a babbling brook right next to us. After that, we got to rest for 30 minutes in their quiet room and were offered fruit and a drink. We then spent the rest of our time in the hot springs again, and left at around 6pm, thoroughly relaxed and totally happy. It was one of the best spa/hot springs experiences I've ever had. One note: If you are driving from La Fortuna, you'll want to pass by the first sign you see on the right for the Tabacon Resort. Continue down the hill and you will come to a small parking lot on the right. Turn in there and show the attendant your day pass. The Tabacon Hot Springs & Spa is across the street from that lot.Dear eaglelake20, Thank you for sharing your incredible experience at Tabacon. We are thrilled to hear that you and your daughter had such a memorable day with us. It warms our hearts to know that you thoroughly enjoyed your time exploring our natural hot springs, nestled within the lush rainforest. We take great pride in providing a tranquil and restful environment, with numerous pools and basins marked with water temperatures for your comfort and enjoyment. We are delighted that you found our spa to be luxurious and that our staff treated you like royalty. Our team strives to provide exceptional service and ensure that every guest feels pampered and cared for during their visit. It's wonderful to hear that you appreciated your treatments and the serene ambiance of our bungalows, complete with refreshments to enhance your relaxation. Thank you for the helpful note regarding directions for future visitors. We appreciate your feedback and will ensure that it is shared with our team to assist other guests in finding us easily. We are grateful for your kind words and thrilled to hear that your experience with us ranks among the best spa and hot springs experiences you've ever had. - Jennifer G12 contributionsLush tropical paradiseYou are immersed in a lush tropical paradise with a maze of so many pools that you’re mostly in them with alone. Now I think they made a mistake when they stopped the buffet lunch because although The Ave had the most amazing view the food was not good. The bar food is good if not a little expensive if you do get hungry though. There were some nice touches but it kinda felt like they were trying to go more high end than the facilities allow. Despite this we really enjoyed the experience and I would highly recommend spending the day here.Dear V6884JGjenniferg, Thank you for your review! We're delighted to hear that you found our resort to be a lush tropical paradise, surrounded by beautiful pools where you could enjoy some peaceful moments alone. We appreciate your feedback regarding the buffet lunch at Ave Restaurant, and we'll certainly consider your comments as we strive to improve our dining options. While we aim to offer high-quality dining experiences, it's important to us that our guests feel satisfied with both the gastronomy and the value. We're glad to hear that you found the bar gastronomy enjoyable, even though it may be a bit pricey. Your comments about our efforts to elevate the experience are noted, and we'll continue to work on finding the perfect balance between luxury and practicality. We purchased a day pass including dinner and spent several hours here. The landscaping and gardens are really beautiful with various small pools scattered around offering different levels of privacy and views. The swim up bar has a great selection of cocktails. They are pricey at around $17 each but I guess to be expected given the setting and they were very good. Pools and gardens aside, it does not feel like a 5* place. The interior is dated and pokey. The changing rooms and showers are very basic, pokey, dingy. It's not a pleasant or relaxing experience to shower and change there. At a 5* place I would expect some boutique toiletries but instead there are cheap wall-mounted soap dispensers like those found in a public toilet. The dinner experience was pretty bleak. We had expected to enjoy a nice, relaxing meal in a beautiful setting to finish off the day but instead it was like eating in a school canteen. Absolutely zero atmosphere. Not even any place settings on the table. It was literally a table with two sets of cutlery on it. The staff were extremely clinical. They just poured us water and then didn't even take a drink order from us. The set menu was very limited. What we had was good although arrived pretty tepid. It had clearly just been microwaved. The "chefs trio of desserts" was not good. Overall, what should have been a luxurious afternoon and evening was absolutely not worth the money or time. I'd recommend going to experience the pools for a couple of hours but lower your expectations of the experience as a whole.

We went to this attraction last December, we booked the hot spring and buffet meal. The time we went was not to good because we were booked in early evening which was after dark, so when you go away from the main area it was pitch black almost as there was not very much lighting, and the bottom of the pools were very uneven and hurt your feet, it was like walking on a stony beach, but the water was hot.
The meal we had was not very good and drinks were very expensive, so just had water.
Would not return.

Dear Vanessa
Your comments are really important to us! For our day pass visitors we recommend to book a full day pass so you can arrive with daylight and stay until late, the experince during the day is greta to have impressive views of the gardens, wildlife and rainforest, at night the lighthing and steam create a magical ambient. As our thermal baths are totally natural we always recommend to bring water shoes. I have shared your comments about the meal with our chef for revision, we are sorry that we were not able to met your expectations.
Kindest regards

We had already been to Baldi and the natrual surroundings of Tabacon attracted us. It did not dissapoint, which is why I've given this 4 stars. The gardens were lovely, and they are good at not letting too many people in, so it didn't feel crowded like other hot springs can. it was raining v heavily the day we went, but the hot springs meant that it was still a positive and comfortable experience. Some of the hot springs can be full of stones, so difficult to walk in, but those nearer the top are on flat ground and more comfortable. It's worth noting that there is just one bar here, right at the bottom, and you have to pay cash rather than tally your drinks on a wristband. Whilst not practical, it is okay. Additionally, it's good to know there are only one set of toilets at the bottom. The staff in the main were also lovely.
So, I felt a little sad about the food situation as they advertised themselves as good for vegetarians and vegans, but they are not, and I don't think they understand what one is. We entered and were told that the vegetarian dishes were on x side (there's loads of meat on the other, so I guess that's clear). I even checked before taking some rice and was told the food was vegetarian. I took some curry and rice, and once I bit into it I realised the rice had chicken in it, so was not vegetarian at all. It's actually quite stupid as there is nothing for veggies to have the curry with as it's not possible to eat the rice. I got rid of my dead animal filled plate and tried to start again. Another man was being told at that moment that the pasta was vegan. The pasta clearly had cheese in it, so wasn't vegan. He nearly took some and I stopped him. The kitchen ended up making him different pasta without cheese. I don't know why the staff kept lying, I don't think it was malicious, I really think they just didn't understand. After the 'cheese' incident, the woman asked again if 'there were any allergies' - she didn't seem to understand that it isn't about allergies, it is about morals. This for me made the experience less enjoyable as I had a mouthful of dead animal flesh. The actual springs are lovely, but the staff really need training on what a vegetarian and vegan is if they are going to put it in their marketing.

Hello Freespirit_909,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are glad to read you enjoyed our lovely location and hot springs. Just as you mentioned, the bottom of our thermal springs is covered by river-like sediments such as stone and sand as our thermal springs are 100% natural. For this reason we always recommend our visitors to wear special footwear for water so that they can easily walk on the bottom of our hot springs.
Although each dish has a respective label that describes our stations, we regret that the information provided by our team was not adequate in regarding to the vegan options offered to you. We offer our sincerest apologies for the incident you experienced which corresponds to an isolated case in our service. In response to your comment we have contacted our F&B department to avoid situations like this occurring in our resort and take into account the vegetarian or vegan diets of our visitors, which as you mention, do not correspond to allergy conditions but moral principles of those who opt for this diet preference.
We appreciate your valuable comment as it allows us to know our opportunities for improvement. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the near future and improve your experience with us.
Sincerely,
Marcel Stittner

Recommend this place for everyone! It's worth all the money. The buffé was ok. The dessert was best. It was chaos in the restaurant around 20.30, we needed to wait for table for a long time and the service was not so good, to much people for the staff to handle. If possible, skip the dinner and just go to the hot springs.
I recommend to go in the evening when its dark and cooler outside. The place is romantic and peaceful, perfect place to go on vacation.

We enjoyed the hot springs but it was a little busier than we would have liked. It is probably more for families than couples in our opinion but to each is own. The locker rooms are small and there was a line to the ladies changing rooms. So if you don’t like changing in public you could have to wait a little while. Would recommend wearing strapped sandals in the hot springs as the bottom is lava rock and can be hard to walk unless you have tough feet. The buffet was included in our excursion so not sure the cost but it did have a lot of variety of foods. Be sure to try the ice cream🍦

Dear Tina,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Tabacon. We are glad to read you enjoyed our location. Howerver, we are sorry to read we didn't exceed your expectations regarding to our resort occupation, we regulated the income of day passes packages in our resort. With the aim that the capacity of our resort will not be exceeded and all our visitors can enjoy a relaxing experience. We love knowing that you enjoyed our ice cream at Ave Restaurant, this is a special recipe from our chef with a local dairy from our country, this combination resulted in delicious flavors. As you were able to experience, the bottom of our thermal hot springs is cover by lava rock as our thermal ponds are located in the middle of a naturally fowing thermal river, for this reason we always recommend our visitors to wear water shoes. We appreciate your detail review and hope to host you again in the near future.

We visited in the evening. Dinner was included in our ticket price. Dinner was Buffet style but good. If you want to rent a locker to store your personal belongings you can do so with a refundable deposit of $50 USD. This deposit also included a towel to use so no need to bring your own. The grounds were beautiful and the fragrance of the flowers were nice. The hot springs were relaxing and romantic at night time. Would like to return for a daytime visit. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful country of Costa Rica! Pura Vida

The thermal water pools are beautiful and unique, with gorgeous landscaping, it’s an experience unlike any other thermal waters I’ve visited, as you can experience thermal waters from its natural source. We had a drink at the pool bar and it was great and our bartender was super nice. Good security lockers and in general very safe.
They make you pay for a meal at the restaurant, it was not the perfect ending to our relaxing morning, we waited an hour for our food that wasn’t good in a not pretty restaurant filled with loud children and families. Would not recommend eating there.

My husband and I visited these springs as part of a prebooked tour package. We really enjoyed the springs, especially as we visited just after a volcano hike, so found the water very relaxing! There are many little pools and despite being there in high season, a lot of the time we had a pool to ourselves. Tabacon is set in a slightly hilly area, and the higher the pool, the hotter the water temperature. Swimming under the waterfalls was fun and a new experience. There is also refreshing swimming pool with swim up bar, but the cocktails seemed very pricey.
We had a buffet included as part of our visit. The food was tasty with a good variety of choices and staff were very attentive and friendly. The changing facilities are very clean. You are given a locker with a wristband key and your own towel. I would advise to wear swim shoes, as the paths can bea little rocky.

My husband and I had a treatment at the spa, we were kicked out and told people only stay for 45 minutes after their treatment despite the fact it was torrential down pouring and the fact that we had purchased a day pass to utilize their facilities all day after spending a substantial amount of money. We were made to feel stupid after our attendant told us to stay and relax as long as we wanted. In addition one of the service managers at the spa came out and told us the best time to utilize the hot springs were when it was raining so reluctantly we put our clothes on and headed out in the rain to check in for the hot springs. Upon check in the man working reception told us the hot springs were actually booked for the day. So despite being told by one of the managers and one of the attendants we were able to use the springs as we had purchased a day pass we were again turned away. To make matters worse it was the last day of our honeymoon. The people who work here are pretentious, disingenuous and despite spending a considerable amount of money, just want to kick you out.

Hello Kiley,
Thank you for taking the time to share with us your experience at Tabacon. It is a pleasure to know that we had the opportunity to serve you however we regret to read that we did not exceed your expectations regarding the reserved treatment. The reserved treatment corresponded to an idyllic massage for two people, when booking a treatment directly with our spa this includes only your spa experience and access to the relaxation area within The spa. The services included in your reservation are mentioned in the confirmation email sent to the personal account with which the person makes the reservation. Similarly, in this email our Spa team also indicates that access to our hot springs is not included in the reservation so if you want to enjoy our hot springs it is recommended that you book in advance so that you can secure your access to the hot springs in advance, due to our resort works with limited availability for day passes, so if you do not reserve in advance, you may not have availability for the time of your visit. We regret that you consider that the attention provided by our team was disinterested, however, it is important to clarify that it is part of our commitment to provide a memorable relaxation experience to maintain a limited capacity in our hot springs so that the relaxing experiences of our visitors will not be affected by noise or crowded spaces. On the other hand, we regret the situation experienced with the relaxation time in the milk bath. However, this treatment lasts 105 minutes, currently due to the pandemic, our spa is working with a reduced capacity of collaborators and bungalows as part of the covid19 protocols. Therefore, once the duration of the treatment is over, we appreciate the collaboration of our visitors in moving to the common relaxation area so that they can keep enjoying the amenities of our spa. The cordiality and attention of our team is something that has been recognized by many of our visitors and we always do it with the best disposition to serve you and make your visit a memorable experience. We appreciate your review and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the near future.
Sincerely,

A much needed break from all of the hiking and tours. Beautiful gardens and absolutely perfect place for relaxing. We bought a day pass so had 4 hours in the springs with lunch included - buffet style and delicious! Staff was very helpful in dining, providing towels and helping us find our way around. Due to Covid, there were limitations on admission so book early....this helped keep the area relatively quiet and peaceful. In most spa's and pools in the spring, we were the only ones there.

Hi, we're coming on a day pass with lunch this week to the hot springs and I was wondering how would we pay for drinks during our visit? Would we pay at the end of our visit or would we need to carry money with us whilst in the hot springs? Thanks in advance.

Hello! We are happy to know you will be visiting us. We offer our visitors the option to open an account with a credit card in our Agua Ardiente pool bar so they can consume as many drinks as they like and cancel when they leave. We will be happy to welcome you and serve you delicious cocktails.

In a day pass can we bring our own water?
Thanks

Hi Catia,
In case you would like to bring a reusable bottle of water it is not a problem. But please consider that food or beverages purchased outside Tabacon may not be brought into the resort.

Hi there! Thinking about booking this for my husband and I while we are on our honeymoon! One question though - costa rica is very hot... how was it going to Hot Springs in 90 degree weather? I went to a few hot springs in iceland and the experience was amazing because we were freezing, but not sure how nice it would be when it's very hot outside?

Hello ausaus333,
It is a pleasure to know that you want to visit us to celebrate your honeymoon. Our resort is located in the Rainforest, so the temperature is usually humid and not as hot as in many other areas of our country. Another advantage of our location in the heart of the forest is the influence of this in regarding to the weather of the area since the weather can change suddenly from sunny to cloudy or from cloudy to rainy unexpectedly, however any of these climatic variations is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a dip at our hot springs. Let us know if we can assist you with any additional information. It would be a pleasure to assist through our telephone line: (+506) 2519 1999.
Sincerely,
