We saw the information boards while we were there to view the penguins at stony point. There really isn't anything else there about the whaling station.

Actually the Penguins seem to be taking over here as well, there were quite a few on the old slipway. There are some signs explains what the station used to look like.

The house next to the penguin-slipway holds a small exhibition about the histoy of the place as a whaling station. The exhibition design and graphics are rather uninspired, tha place itself lacks charme. There is a fish and chips restaurant in the same building. Equally...More

This is an interesting footnote in history but the story of Stony Point Whaling Station doesn't really desribe the scale of slaughter that went on. It's sad to imagine the carcasses being dragged up the slipway now covered with penguins. Its hard to imagine just...More

Good history of an industrial port. Worth the visit to read about the history of the area. Tranquil place along the shore.

The raised boardwalk takes you past quite a few of the various structures built when the old whaling station was constructed - way back in the early 1900's. Most of the structures have been reclaimed by nature, all except the old lookout or "lighthouse". We...More

This is an interesting piece of history. Would however not suggest visiting this as a seperate outing. Very nice to combine with Stony Point Penguin Colony.

Take a walk, and read all about the old Whaling Station, on the signs, and see how it has been taken over by nature. Highly recommended.

We got to this while visiting the nearby penguin colony. Whaling is not my favorite sport seeing how this stations practically killed some whale species to extinction. This one has lots of signs to read that interpret the buildings in the area. All in all...More

The penguin colony is in the middle of the old whaling station and the whaling station has a very excellent series of interpretive signs to guide you, so that you can see and understand everything that has gone there. It is free. So you get...More
