Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Point Turton is about 250 Kms drive from Adelaide and is on sheltered Hardwicke Bay. It is a good base for travelling the southern Yorke Peninsula and boasts an historic jetty and precinct.

Built in 1877, the jetty was built for shipping grain from the area to Port Adelaide or directly overseas in sailing ships. In the early 1900s, about 120,000 tonnes of recrystallised limestone was quarried nearby and sent to Port Pirie where it was used as a flux in the smelting of metals.

The 100m long jetty is at the centre of the precinct with a designated swimming, BBQ, fish-cleaning and boat ramps surrounding it. With hand-rails on both sides nearly to the end, the jetty is safe but the wooden planks on the walkway are a little uneven. At the end of the jetty is a smaller structure which allows for moorings. Between the jetty and the breakwater for boat launching is a netted swimming spot with a pontoon. Steps from the breakwater allow for access to this swimming area.

High above the jetty on the cliffs is the Point Turton Caravan Park with a mixture of cabins and van sites. The view of the area from here is superb! Those who book sites near the edge of the cliffs would get to experience some magnificent sunsets. Next to the jetty is an open shed with seating and what may have been a BBQ. On the other side of the jetty, fishermen are catered for with an area specifically for gutting and cleaning catches. Starting to notice that many regional towns are now featuring a portrait frame for photographic memories with the branding "Hello from Point Turton" in this case. Around the car park area are plaques that contain local history. Further around is the two lane boat ramp, popular with deep sea fishermen, and attached large vehicle park.

The jetty area is a fisherman's delight with big tommies at night time, as well as squid, snook and garfish amongst the possible catches.

I enjoyed exploring the jetty area and witnessed many a fisherman heading out to try their hand and not many returning whilst there so there may been some action! The jetty walk was relaxing whilst taking in some great views.

Return? Probably and will endeavour to score a caravan or cabin site overlooking the jetty to catch a glorious sunset or two!

Great little jetty but with kids be aware and careful, their is no safety railing on the last third. Great swimming area between the breakwater and the jetty with floats and a pontoon. Safe, clean with friendly manta rays for companions. Fishing is challenging with the majority trying for kingfish. Fish and squid are there but what is the right bait?

We travelled here for ice cream (we bought some streets icecream from the caravan park) We walked the jetty with our icecream and there were many people fishing from the jetty (not all parts of the jetty have a rail, but there are ladders. Near the beginning of the jetty there are stairs for swimmers to enter the water (we did not swim). The highlight though was watching the boats at the boat ramp (getting hooked up to cars or going into the water. As we were watching this and talking to folk getting into their boats a dolphin came right up to us and played around the dock for a few minutes. We also spotted a sting ray and many different types of fish. The kids were paddling in this water and were very reluctant to leave. Public toilets with soap are also close by.

Point turton jetty has its ups and downs, as a resident of many years I go fishing there most afternoons, generally catch something, a few squid at the moment {scarce}, salmon trout come in large numbers occasionally, tommies, garfish when it warms up and other species. As everwhere else, its not as good as previous years. The jetty is overdue for maintenance being very old and hopefully the Govt will fix it up before it is closed

I like a good jetty walk and even tho it was absolutely howling with wind, it still had to be done.
Well structured and one solid jetty with good history.
It would be great to fish off.

Like all jetty’s it offers a pleasant walk and the opportunity to talk to locals fishing. What made it special were the large stingrays swimming near the short. Plenty of parking opposite

Always love going on this jetty and fishing. Spent many hours on this jetty. Love watching the dolphins, sting rays and seals. The only thing I don't like is the swimming pontoons.

We stayed at the fantastic caravan park across the road. Jetty is a great place to relax and have a swim, stingrays are in the water nearby most of the day, so just be mindful of these beautiful creatures.
