The 45 minute guided walk is a great introduction to the house and its history, etc.....and sets the scene to then enter the house and see inside. Fascinating history and well presented. Very interesting National Portrait Gallery on the top floor. As with all NT properties, I dislike the request/suggestion to pay more than the standard entry fee so they... More

A typical National trust house with great grounds, and interesting history, take a guided walk around the building makes the visit much more interesting, as there a number of points a casual visit one would miss. Good for lunch in the cafe

Very interesting property, amazing selection of paintings on loan from National Portrait Gallery. Knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to explain the contents of the rooms and tell the story of Montacute. Nice grounds and cafe, shop etc. Allow at least 2-3 hours for your visit.

Great house to visit, all the NT staff were helpful and informative, although currently surrounded by scaffold at the ends of the house (March 2017). The house seems to lack furniture in some of the rooms and the top floor is used as a modern art gallery which spoils the look or atmosphere of the house. There are some great... More

We stopped off at Montacute house and garden on the way from Glastonbury to Cornwall and so glad we did. The village was picturesque with its yellow sandstone and the house was large. The staff were so nice and knowledgeable and not pushy but telling us really interesting stories about the property. The garden was great with a fountain, ice... More

As usual National Trust property done well. House and gardens great despite the rain. Staff are volunteers - capeesh! Girl in shop nice (Still have Row, row, row your boat ringing in my ears. She'll understand). Cafe good BUT only one high chair and on a quiet day FOUR kids required it. Doesn't make the eating experience nice for parents... More

Went here with friends and my 6 month old son. Good access for prams. Wheelchair access around the back of the house (follow the ramps) and you can leave your prams in the main hall if you need too. Lovely gardens. Didn't feel as though there were many 'rooms' to look at, lots of art displayed rooms only. Would of... More

Surprisingly very little to marvel at here. There is nothing that actually engages the visitor, whether it be a family story, or the story of the house. For us, it was just an old building, that had a lot of scaffolding outside and with surprisingly few rooms inside, sparsely furnished and adorned with what little there was having originated from...
