We visited early afternoon and was advised my the very friendly and helpful staff about the special event with lighting inside and outside the house that evening. So we enjoyed looking around the grounds in the afternoon and returned in the evening to look inside...More

Great classic house. We went for the evening tour... sadly they covered some of the art... I guess because there were a lot of kids. Still, a great place to visit

Often stop when returning home in north Devon. Being National Trust members makes a stop just right. The grounds and house alone are worth the visit and the cafe provides typical NT fare. Any fan of Wolf Hall can recognise the location. The surrounding land...More

We visited this Elizabethan gem in Summer, on a mild Summer's day only to discover that A Midsummer Night's Dream was to be staged in the garden that very evening. What a venue, what a night! Reception kindly offered us a pair of returned tickets...More

Very atmospheric here with the gardens and exterior of the house illuminated by coloured lights. Shame a lot of the National Picture gallery paintings had been removed for conservation work. Staff very friendly and informative. Well worth a visit

We've been members of the National Trust for some years now, and have to say that Montacute House is the most amazingly beautiful property we've visited. I think the pretty pale Ham stone really sets off the building, especially in sunlight, but all the decorative...More

Wonderful house with knowledgeable staff to answer your questions and the gardens were the best we’d visited since getting our membership. Dogs are welcome in the grounds but not in the house. There is a coffee shop and great shop there too. Something for everybody.

The exterior of the house is quite striking but the interior seems to have been neglected since I last visited approximately 35 years ago. Don't expect to see many treasures on display it is now mostly pictures on the walls.Special mention must be made of...More

I think you have had a lot of answers already however, I assume you are including Stoke-sub-Hamdon Priory and Treasurer's House at Martock. With a lot of Trust properties it can be down to planning if they are only open on... More
