We heard great stories about the history of the area as well as experienced some stunning views from short walks through Simpsons Gap, Ormiston Gorge and Stanley Chasm to mention a few.

- Serpentine Gorge - I skipped this one - Ochre Pits - A very spiritual place where you can see layers of ochre deposits with vibrant and amazing colors.

Much can be accessed via day trips from Alice Springs but it is well worth while doing the drive right through to Kings Canyon, staying overnight at Glen Helen Gorge and allowing plenty of time to enjoy this exper...

Spectacular area even after fires

Significant fires earlier in the year have caused extensive loss of cover but this really is extraordinary country with really great walks. There was surprisingly little wildlife around but the geology of the area is superb and fascinating.

Worth stopping at each gorge along the way

Gap, Chasm, creek big hole, pit and Gorges

Along the MacDonnell Ranges a series of attractions are found. In one day we visited Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye), Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ochre Pits, Ormiston Gorge, and Redbanks Gorge. And have a swim in one of them. Most have parking and toilets.
