On a day off, we booked this with Evergreen Adventures and had a brilliant experience. The booking was smooth, the plane had a real "atmosphere" to it and Kaieteur itself was just stunning. If you are in Guyana, this is one place that you just...More

Not the tour organizers fault, but when we went to visit the falls in late January, the falls was not visible due to the heavy cloud cover. Anybody going to a falls tour needs to keep track of this phenomenon. The pilot who was flying...More

You can try wilderness explorers in Georgetown Guyana They had a good deal. They picked me up from my hotel, took me to the airport, and after the trip they dropped me at my hotel. The tour was well arranged with a guide... More

Before anything - I appreciate I'm asking for a lot of info - so any answers are appreciated!! If anyone wants to share costs for the Georgetown - Kaieteur trip - you're welcome to join! I'll be in Guyana from Jan. 3rd (evening) until Jan. 10 (early morning). 6 full days. Everyone has told me Kaieteur Falls is a must see - so I'd like to see it!! I'd like to go overland at least one way to get the feel of the land and for some adventure - but I'm having a hard time finding reliable information on a such a journey && even worse than that is that it seems much more expensive to go overland than by plane. From what I have read; I would take the bus heading to Lethem & ask to be let off at the intersection so I can hop another bus to Mahdia. I was advised to spend the night in Mahdia, and then try the next day to get a ride, or bus, to Pamela's Landing. From Pamela's Landing I would need to pay a boatman about 150$ U.S. to bring me to Tukeit. From Tukeit it's an obvious (though not easy) hike to the falls. I would imagine I'd have to pay another 150$ U.S. on the way back... So my questions become: 1- Can someone elaborate on the above plan?? Things like: This is my only overland option? Buses are indeed daily from Georgetown in the direction I'm going? What about the bus from this intersection to Mahdia, and then from Mahdia to Pamela's Landing? How much time total from Georgetown to the Falls? It's safe as a solo male traveler? Approx. cost? The trail to the falls once I arrive in Tukeit is easy to find, and easy to navigate? Any alternative to this 150$ boat ride? ** Other details anyone wants to add?** 2- Is it possible to buy a 1-way plane ticket either to or from Kaieteur Falls from Georgetown (or while I'm at Kaieteur Falls? I'm thinking if I just go there overland, and show up at the airport - I can just - maybe - sweet talk them into giving me a (cheaper) 1-way plane ticket? I'm a solo traveler - male - have a decent amount of experience hiking & camping but I'm not equipped/had not planned for a camping trip.
