Walking in the reserve is pure pleasure revelling in nature’s beauty. We did the river walk which is not too strenuous and very scenic. The little sandy beaches on route allow to take a swim in the river. The fijnbos is so lush and the smells coming from the fijnbos are heavenly.

We loved our stay at Kogelberg Nature Reserve. We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom cottages. It has everything you need and you feel as if you are alone in nature. Staff were friendly! Best is that there is no reception nor WiFi!

I agree with the review of 2017. The lack of management has resulted in such a bad flie problem (due to waste management issues) that it was impossible to try and cook anything. We stayed in the Palmiet studio. The views were stunning, but we were left disappointed and disgusted by the lack of management, both of the composting toilets and the general maintenance of the chalet. Don't be fooled by the Instagram-friendly pictures. The stove's door fell off and had a huge gap at the top (did not close properly) and we had to prop it up with a chair to get it working. The Hob did not work at all. The sliding doors had huge gaps (did not close properly) and rattled badly at night. The chair was used to stop that rattle as well. The tap fitting in the kitchen was so loose you had to hold it with your one hand to be able to open it with the other. But the worst was the flies. When we mentioned it to the duty manager he said that where there are animals there are flies. But when we sat outside the chalet there were hardly flies. The problem was inside and with the composting toilets. I understand that in load-shedding the fans don't work, but it does not seem to be a load-shedding problem only. It seems to be a waste maintenance and management problem. Sad really. You walk in and see loads of flies sitting on the kitchen towels and the face towels in the bathroom. Yuck. And how can you have a romantic bath when there are about 50 flies swarming around you? Palmiet Honeymoon studio should be renamed the Palmiet fly swatting compound. And don't roll down the white blinds. You will be presented with squashed insects all around. If you do want to do it to yourself, take loads of insect killer and loads of citronella oil. One would hope that management could at least supply that - then again - if your maintenance is that bad perhaps the problem is systemic.

Solitude and connecting to nature in an eco friendly and tastefully decorated and well designed chalet - a real gem in Cape Nature portfolio and offers so much to do from hiking, rafting, mtb or just restoring

this miracle of life we call the Fynbos Kingdom has a greater varletry of plant species in such a small area than both south and north America combined. The Capes best secret, Pringle Bay is surrounded by the biosphere, mountains and various marine activities. PB is only an hour from Cape Town. Has 10 restaurants with bands coming to play on weekends.

South Africa such a great place ! I had the opportunity to live & work there for about 18 months - employed with Fluor Corp, retired after working 42 yrs with same company, retired 5 years ago, still in Houston Tx. Worked in Secunda, very close to Johannesburg, had a car, and spent many weekends traveling throughout SA. Best means was tent-camping in caravan parks, no reservations required, very secure, and glad there was a double fence at Krueger Park. My wife was able to visit me after working 12 months, and we took a 2-week tour of SA - CapeTown, Jeffrey's Bay, Sodwana Bay, too many to name here. . Loved the Cape best of all - top of the Table Mountain giving great views, learning so much about Nelson Mandella, and SA history. . Diamond Mines, Rugby - Go Springboks ('Here Come da Bokkies'). Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Johnny Kleeg, Mambo Grove, so many great memories. . Great vineyards along the Cape. Maybe we will be able to visit this beautiful country again!

Awesome nature reserve with stunning views. Stayed in touch one of the eco pods for two. Our one was Strooiblommetjie the first one in a row of 4. It has everything you need and well laid out. We made full use of the indoor fire place as it rained most of the weekend. We did two small hikes the longer one of the two was a 10km hike that was relatively easy except for the very wet patches after the excellent rain. Breathtaking views with a rich fynbos variety. Nature lovers paradise.

Kogelberg nature reserve is a hidden gem. When we visited in late January there were very few other people there and the area is so vast we only glimpsed them in the distance. Despite wild fires last year, the plants have made a good recovery and lots of rare species were in bloom. And there were some great bird sightings as well. Our only regret is that we didn't bring swimming gear - there are a few fantastic swimming places along the river banks. The residential chalets looked great, but it could feel very isolated up there at night, especially if you were the only ones staying in the reserve. Betty's Bay is a better bet.

The beautifully designed cottages at kogelberg provide a comfortable base to enjoy this magnificent reserve. Well laid out walking trails if you’re feeling active, an eco-pool to cool off in or sit on your veranda and enjoy the quiet. Close to lots of other attractions. Good birdlife , good place to put your feet up and relax.

Stunning reserve about 2 hours drive from Cape Town. Thoroughly enjoyed the Palmiet River Trail - a flat easy 10km along the Palmiet river. Be prepared for sudden rain and lots of stunning flowers! Will definitely be back.
We were surprised how busy the reserve was so be sure to book your hiking permit ahead of time.
