Using our new English Heritage membership we drove down to Hampshire. Lovely outlook and interesting history. Looks like entrance to the main grounds are free, but you pay if you want to enter the main castle building. Good audio guide, with a witty dialogue between...More

Great afternoon out. Climb the tower to have wonderful views over the bay. Learn about the history and explore the castle ruins. The grounds can be enjoyed without a charge and popular for picnics and park games. A small church is also in the grounds....More

Portchester castle is a rare example of a castle that you can still walk around and go in. The surroundings are free to visit and walk around. Always lots of dog walkers and kids playing ball games in the area. Good for crabbing and throwing...More

Situated in a sleepy area of portchester, the castle is perfect place for a picnic. You can walk around the grounds for free and the high walls allow it to be a real breeze free sun trap when sunny. Great for dog walks, children or...More

I found this place to be such a lovely tranquil place. Although I never entered the castle to walk to the top, the surrounding areas were beautiful. The only downside is that there seemed to be a lot of work going on (which you can...More

The bus stops at the town and it is only a short walk south bound to the castle. Alternately the train station is only 5 minutes walk from the town centre and there is also a taxi firm there

Yes there is a rail station at Portchester. I do not understand the previous remark as the Castle is not on an Island. You could get a taxi to the Castle but it is not far to walk depending on your capability and that of the... More
