Though not able to visit the actual castle the grounds were stunning. Fantastic views and complete tranquility. Look forward to going back.

We absolutely loved the gardens and grounds, which were generous sized. It was calm and peaceful and an absolute delight in the sunshine. There were lovely walks, but also plenty of benches- it's the kind of place you can just sit and admire the views or daydream. There is no access to the house and the opening times are limited (Tuesdays and Thursdays?) and possibly seasonal- it would be necessary to check beforehand. The village in which it is situated is so old and pretty, with a beautiful church, a characterful pub (super landlady), a small shop selling a variety of touristy goods and a tearooms (which we didn't visit).

Spent just over an hour sautering around the grounds of this lovely house. The views are every bit as interesting as the place itself and we tarried a while just peering out over Kent downland. Don't expect to be bowled over, there are no real show stopping gardens it's just all very nice. There were some families picnicing, which seemed a good idea. All very low key. After an hour imagining what it would be like to own all of this we sauntered into the beautiful Chilham market square for a good pub lunch.

Hi IAN A
I really do think that you should have thought about this review before posting your negative comments. Firstly Chilham Castle is a Private Family Home and we should all be grateful that they allow the public into their gardens and Grounds at all! The lack of plant labels and information is again due to the fact that this is a private home and the family doesn't want labels all over their flower beds. most Garden enthusiasts would recognise the plants within the grounds and appreciate the work that goes into maintaining such an estate. The price of admission which was £5 entry for a NGS (national garden Scheme) open day, is, in my mind, very standard for a 25 acre garden. all the proceed go to multipe charities around the country. lastly the two gentlemen you refer to as 'Muppets' were actually the owner and his friend, who gave up their time to help out on this charity day......
