About
Columbus Park is an open-air historical and archaeological museum, set on 3 acres of Discovery Bay overlooking the ocean. It was named as such because Columbus could not find a source of fresh water close. The museum has recently been remodeled and now includes a bar and a branch of the popular jerk restaurant "Scotchies". There are also ambitious plans to further develop the museum in the future.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This park is here to commemorate the landing of Christopher Columbus from what I understand. There are numerous displays for you to read and objects to see and interact with. (Canons, grave markers, tools, etc.) Fortunately we had a guide to tell us the history of the area. It’s not like your typical North American park but that’s what adds to character of the place. It’s not very big so don’t plan on spending more than a half hour there.

This place is one of the most novel things I've ever seen. An outdoor museum charting the very birth of Jamaican history all the way to 19th century.
The very sad thing is that it appears that once the idea came about, that was that and no one really cares about the state the museum reaches as the years pass.

Missing pieces. Worn out displays. Fading descriptions. Much of the info can gleaned in more detail at one of Jamaica's many great houses.
This place needs work.
I wouldn't return unless some work had been done. But I believe in seeing for yourself so if you have a few minutes. Why not.

It's history from 1494 - Make the stop! You'll find some ancient relics like canons, corn buskers, water system, and original walls and architecture from the 1400's. Great Jamaican photo op, and a view of the ocean that will be worth seeing!

It was really cool to be standing in an area where Christopher Columbus first arrived in Jamaica. The view is incredibly gorgeous. There is also a jerk hut right beside this park where they serve amazing jerk chicken - probably the best I have ever tried!

Such a shame here isn’t shouted about more , the only reason we learnt about it as our local taxi driver Delroy knew we liked history so he stopped here for us on the way to Falmouth.
I can’t believe Jamaica doesn’t use this to their advantage so much history here with loads of Beautiful sceneries .
We was very lucky one of the local stall holders come down and gave us a very in-depth knowledge look around.
We could of gone around on our own but he was a very polite man who knew his stuff about the area so we learnt more than just reading the little they had there .
It’s free so it’s worth a stop to say you have been .

The “museum” is in a very bad shape. I would recommend to stop only for the view from the museum.
It is sad that Jamaican history is left in such a state.

Although there has been much controversy over the accuracy of Columbus' conquests, there is no denying that this park is a beautiful setting with many interesting items to take in - great for photo-ops!

We came here in October 2011 courtesy of our taxi driver we hired for the day to take us out around the island to see some of the lovely Jamaican sites that tourists don’t always get to see as they are not so much advertised by the resorts. Located to the side of the main road, Columbus Park is the site where Christopher Columbus first arrived in Jamaica and the area is laid out as an open-air museum. There is a guide there every day who gives you lots of information about the site whilst walking round. There are some plaques and information boards too that tell you a little information but the area could do with some restoration in places to preserve this great historical site and improve the attraction.

Overall the visit was about half an hour long and was a great historical lesson that gave us some beautiful views. A must see if you’re a history lover or if you wish to learn some of Jamaica’s history and cultural past.

We stopped here on our way to Ocho Rios to get pictures and see the artifacts. To echo other reviewers comments, this place has some potential and deserves some attention from the tourism ministry. Nevertheless, stop and take a look. There is a nice guy there who will walk you thru the park and provide additional info on the artifacts. He won't charge you, but will ask for a tip at the end. He says he is the park's historian, but I think he is just a local. Nice guy, so nothing to worry about.

We made a quick stop here on the way back from another excursion. While the views were beautiful and the site has a lot of information, the site is in need of some major repairs and upkeep. We did have the opportunity to meet some local residents and found that to be the highlight of the visit.
