The place rocks...literally!

The loop provides one with nature at its best, the views incredible, the mythical surroundings a constant and the walk a slight challenge. Welcome to the Burren!

Our host Susan Daly recommended two walks and both were winners. We started with the Caher Valley Circular Walk from the beach car park at Fanore, a small seaside village on the north west coast of Co Clare, 14 km north of Doolin. This was to be a walk of 13km with 340 metres of gentle ascent and took 3.5... More

This is a great, quite easy and short loop, perfect for a half-day hike. The loop is a bit steep at the start, but quickly comes to a flat ground and then downwards to Fanore cross. The views from the Burren rocks, to the gentle cows and deep blue Atlantic ocean are stunning. You can access this loop by bus... More

The loop is 14.5kms from the Fanore Beach car park. We'll sign posted the views are great. Recommend walking clockwise so the best views are saved for the last 4-5kms as you descend down the hill looking across to the Aran Islands, Fanore Beach and across Galway Bay. No food or drink stops so take plenty of water and food.... More

Whether you're there in sunshine or fog (like I was) this beautiful, rolling hike gives you a wonderful introduction to the pastoral atmosphere of Western Ireland. Just shy of 15km, it was somewhat tough going uphill in the mud and slick mist, so allow yourself 3+ hours if you want to drink in the ancient stone walls, livestock, and gorgeous... More

We knew that we did not have time for the full loop, so we decided to just walk the initial part up the valley from Fanore … even this section was impressive. When we turned around and headed back down, there were even more stunning views. Plenty of interesting flora and rock formations. Next time, we will set aside more... More

Any walk in the Burren landscape is worth it, we only did a portion of the loop, looking at the flora and fauna, the roads are quiet enough too, but get onth the green roads and enjoy the views and the fresh air - and the peace and quiet.

Almost any part of the Burren is good for a walk, but this combines great views - to Galway Bay and Connemara, out to the Aran islands, and inland too - with easy green road walking in places and some road walking. You can of course avoid roads if you do a hobbit (there and back again), or vary the... More

This is a 16 km loop from Fanore/Craggagh to the shoulder of Sliabh Elva and into Caher valley. It is a long and glorious day's walk into some of the most stunning scenery the Burren has to offer: coast, cliff, green paths, tranquil roads. Be prepared! The road walk is a little onerous at the start and good gear is... More
